Position Summary
Reports To: General Manager The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for overseeing all housekeeping and laundry operations to ensure exceptional cleanliness, product quality, operational efficiency, and guest satisfaction. This position provides leadership to the Housekeeping team while ensuring compliance with Marriott brand standards, company policies, health and safety regulations, and departmental financial objectives.
Job Overview
Manage the housekeeping and laundry operations to ensure product quality standards are met and that optimum service is provided to hotel guests in accordance with hotel and company business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the day-to-day operations of the Housekeeping and Laundry departments, including planning, scheduling, organizing, and assigning work to ensure appropriate staffing levels and operational efficiency. Communicate and enforce company policies, procedures, brand standards, and departmental expectations.
Recruit, hire, train, coach, develop, and evaluate housekeeping team members while providing ongoing feedback and performance management.
Ensure all associates have the tools, equipment, training, and resources necessary to perform their duties safely and effectively.
Develop and implement quality assurance procedures for housekeeping and laundry operations.
Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, laundry facilities, storage areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, presentation, and service standards are consistently achieved.
Identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions to maintain Marriott brand standards and guest satisfaction.
Coordinate and execute special requests for VIP guests, repeat guests, Marriott Bonvoy Elite members, and group arrivals.
Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns, service issues, and special requests while ensuring timely resolution and guest satisfaction.
Manage departmental expenses and participate in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
Monitor labour costs, productivity, inventory levels, and departmental performance to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
Compile and analyze housekeeping reports, room status updates, inspection results, and departmental metrics.
Maintain accurate communication with Front Office and Guest Services teams regarding room availability and room status.
Conduct departmental meetings and daily pre-shift meetings to review priorities, service expectations, safety topics, and operational updates.
Establish and maintain par levels for linens, guest supplies, cleaning products, and housekeeping equipment.
Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure adequate inventory, quality products, and effective service delivery.
Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and collaboration with Front Office, Guest Relations, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and other hotel departments.
Oversee lost and found procedures and ensure compliance with company standards.
Assist with deep cleaning projects and support operational needs during peak occupancy periods.
May serve as Manager on Duty as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Post-secondary education, advanced vocational training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some college education preferred. Minimum four years of housekeeping and/or laundry experience in a hotel environment, including supervisory or management experience.
Previous experience in a full-service hotel environment is strongly preferred.
Strong leadership, coaching, team-building, and employee development skills.
Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
Ability to manage budgets, labour costs, inventory controls, and departmental expenses.
Must be fluent in English. Additional languages are considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform the following: Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
Pushing and pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 200 pounds
Remaining stationary for extended periods
Frequently standing and moving throughout the hotel
Frequently handling housekeeping equipment, supplies, and materials
Frequently bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing
Other Requirements
Communication skills are utilized extensively when interacting with guests, employees, vendors, contractors, and hotel leadership. Reading and writing abilities are utilized frequently when preparing reports, schedules, inspections, budgets, policies, and training materials.
Mathematical skills, including budgeting, labour analysis, percentages, forecasting, and variance reporting, are used regularly.
Strong problem-solving, reasoning, motivational, organizational, and training abilities are essential.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as operational needs require.
Work Area: Guest Rooms, Public Areas, Laundry Facilities, Storage Areas, Administrative Offices, and All Hotel Facilities.
