Food Security Team Lead

Full-Time

This job posting is for an existing vacancy within our organization.

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

This position supports the weekly coordination, distribution, data collection and reporting for the Food Security program at Tungasuvvingat Inuit. The Food Security Program operates out of the Vanier location and supports Inuit living in the Ottawa area.

Main Responsibilities, include but are not limited to, the following:

- Support Food Security Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the program including training new staff, scheduling work tasks, mentoring student interns, funder relations and reporting
- Coordinate and purchase weekly food supplies for the program by placing orders with vendors—including the Ottawa Food Bank—manage the unloading and stocking of deliveries, and support with the ordering, inventory, preparation, and stocking of country food;
- Prepare sign-in forms for the bi-weekly food bank, collect and track participant data for reporting purposes, and input service data into the Link2Feed database on a bi-weekly basis;




- Support fundraising efforts and help promote the needs and priorities of the Food Security Program to the community and potential donors;
- Become familiar with and comply with all of TI’s policies and procedures; and
- Any other duties assigned to you as may reasonably be required in line with the Position’s main responsibilities.

Education, Qualifications and Skills:

- Secondary School education is required
- Degree or diploma in social services or similar field is preferred.
- Experience working in the food security or social services field is preferred.
- Experience working with data collection and reporting is preferred
- Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms
- Knowledge of Inuit culture, values, Inuit IQ and traditional practices
- Familiarity with the socio-economic landscape as it pertains to Inuit and issues facing Inuit families
- Commitment to a client-centered approach when working with Inuit
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to function effectively in a busy environment and in stressful situations
- Ability to work independently with a solid sense of focus
- Ability to develop and deliver programming
- Motivated and able to work independently
- Ability to provide support to community in crisis; including de-escalation skills




- Valid Driver’s license is an asset
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment; and
- Fluency in English required, fluency in Inuktitut is an asset

Salary and Benefits

- Salary range is $55,000 to $ 58,000 Annually
- TI provides paid sickness, personal and family sickness leave days, and a 24/7 confidential Employee and Family Assistance Plan.
- Vacation (earn 3 weeks/year).
