Position Overview
Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. (ACSI) is a multi-disciplined construction company offering superior civil, electrical and mechanical services including piping, insulation, scaffolding, and module fabrication. We’re always on the search for exceptional craft candidates to fill our ever-expanding project portfolios. We are focused on hiring only those exceptional individuals who value safety in the workplace and remain committed to the collective goal of maintaining our Aecon ‘zero injury’ culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators (up to 45T) for trenching, backfilling, and general excavation
- Install and expose underground utilities safely (water, sewer, storm)
- Work around live utilities with proper clearances and spotting procedures
- Follow grade stakes, plans, and direction from supervision/grade personnel
- Load trucks, handle materials, and assist with site prep as required
- Conduct daily pre-use inspections and basic machine maintenance
- Maintain situational awareness and safe working distances from other equipment
- Communicate clearly with ground crew, spotters, and supervisors
Requirements And Experience
- Minimum 3+ years excavator experience in civil or underground work
- Experience digging around utilities (hydro, gas, water/sewer)
- Experience with machines up to 45T
- Ability to read grade stakes and construction drawings
- Robust knowledge of safe excavation practices and hazard awareness
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Safety tickets (CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid, Ground Disturbance) considered an asset
- Strong awareness of site safety and hazard recognition
- Follow directions that are spoken or given by hand signals
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to lift and work with materials weighing up to 25kg
- Able to sit for long periods in cramped spaces
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and environments
- Must have a strong understanding of industrial safety procedures and policies
- Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal
