Under direction, the Indigenous ConsultationAdvisor (term) conducts Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (port authority)Indigenous consultation with those Indigenous groups who may be impacted bypotential projects and initiatives in the port authority jurisdiction. Theincumbent works closely with various internal groups as well as port tenants.Additionally, an Indigenous Consultation Advisor may engage with other federalor provincial agencies to coordinate engagement and/or consultation. As well,the Advisor assesses and/or advises on the sufficiency of Indigenousconsultation for project applications, port authority led projects and/orcorporate strategic initiatives as they relate to Indigenous rights, issues,interests and opportunities.

What you do

- Plans and conducts Indigenousconsultation for the port authority or tenant-led development projects.
- May also conduct Indigenousconsultation on land use policies and plans, and strategic initiatives.
- Develops, implements andreviews consultation plans for projects that require an environmentalassessment pursuant to the Impact Assessment Act and, when appropriate, alignswith the BC Environmental Assessment Act.
- Works with a cross-functionalteam to consider all aspects of port development projects and other initiativesand recommends whether consultation is required.
- Works closely with contractorson engagement and consultation activities.
- Works closely with relevantport authority departments on known Indigenous issues to ensure they areaddressed appropriately through the consultation process.




- Applies existing legalprinciples and factors to the analysis of Indigenous interests.
- Monitors and analyzes evolvinglegislation, case law and applicable policy as it may affect port authorityIndigenous consultation processes and advises management.
- Tracks and records allIndigenous engagement/consultation activities in accordance with port authoritypractice and appropriate federal, provincial or other applicable standards.
- As required, under thedirection of the Manager, works with Indigenous groups on various agreements inwhole or part. Represents the port authority at meetings with Indigenous groupsand may participate in meetings with local, provincial and federal governmentrepresentatives, and port tenants as needed.
- Ensures appropriatecoordination with the port authority project and environmental review processesas they relate to Indigenous consultation or engagement.
- Provides recommendations forparticipation funding to be provided to Indigenous groups.
- Research and prepare briefingnotes, summary reports, letters and other materials as needed.
- Responsible for themaintenance of databases; updates and develops as required.
- Participates in and/or leadscross functional teams.
- Participate in health andsafety initiatives and comply with established policies, procedures andguidelines to protect yourself and your work colleagues. Report concerns,hazards, risks and incidents to management for follow-up.

What you bring

- A bachelor’s degree incommunications, Indigenous studies, law or another acceptable degree.
- A minimum of 4 yearsdemonstrable experience developing and implementing complex Indigenousconsultation and communication strategies around challenging projects.
- Exceptional research, writingand analytical skills.
- Established relationships withLower Mainland Indigenous groups would be considered an asset.
