About Steamoji Newmarket
Steamoji Newmarket is a new skills-development academy for children ages 5–14, opening in September 2026. Through hands-on projects in coding, robotics, engineering, electronics, 3D printing and digital design, Steamoji helps children build technical skills alongside problem-solving, creativity, confidence and a growth mindset.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, energetic and dependable Lead STEM Facilitator to join our founding team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys working directly with children while also helping guide and support other members of the facilitator team.
In addition to facilitating Steamoji programs, the Lead STEM Facilitator will serve as the responsible team member on designated shifts when the Academy Director is not on site. You will help create a fun, encouraging and protected learning environment while supporting smooth day-to-day academy operations.
You do not need to be an expert in every technology we use. Steamoji provides the curriculum, instructional materials and paid training. We are looking for someone with strong experience working with children, good judgment and leadership potential who is curious about technology and comfortable learning new tools.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of hands-on Steamoji projects and learning missions for children ages 5–14.
- Guide students through activities while encouraging curiosity, creativity, experimentation and independent problem-solving.
- Open and/or close the academy on designated weekday and weekend shifts when the Academy Director is not present.
- Serve as the responsible team member on assigned shifts and follow established safety, security and operating procedures.
- Coordinate and support Facilitators and Junior STEM Facilitators during programming, helping maintain appropriate student groupings, workstations and session flow.
- Coach and support team members in the Steamoji curriculum, facilitation approach and academy procedures.
- Review upcoming activities so the team is prepared with the required tools, technology, equipment and materials.
- Monitor student experience, behaviour, safety and progress and step in when additional facilitator support is needed.
- Welcome families, answer routine program questions and provide appropriate feedback about student progress.
- Escalate significant parent, student, staffing, safety or operational concerns to the Academy Director.
- Complete routine opening and closing responsibilities and help ensure learning spaces, equipment and common areas are organized, safe and ready for programming.
- Assist with free trials, demonstrations, camps, birthday parties, school satellite programs and community events as scheduled.
- Help train and onboard new Facilitators and Junior STEM Facilitators as the team grows.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 18 years old.
- Strong experience working with children through education, tutoring, coaching, camps, recreation, youth programs or a similar setting.
- Experience leading, mentoring or supporting others.
- Friendly, patient and confident when communicating with children, parents and colleagues.
- Dependable and comfortable taking responsibility for opening, closing and shift operations.
- Good judgment, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable facilitating groups of children and keeping students engaged.
- Curious about STEM and technology and able to learn unfamiliar tools.
- Able to follow established procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
- Current CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification before beginning independent Lead shifts.
- Available for weekday after-school shifts and weekend programming, including designated opening responsibilities.
Post-secondary studies or experience in education, engineering, computer science, educational technology, child and youth studies or another relevant field are assets. Coding, robotics or other STEM experience is helpful, but strong facilitation, leadership and the ability to learn are more important than expertise in every technology. Work-Integrated Learning Opportunity
Our primary need is for an ongoing part-time Lead STEM Facilitator.
An experienced eligible post-secondary student who meets all Lead requirements may also be considered for a paid, fixed-term work-integrated learning (WIL) placement from September 1 to December 31, 2026.
The WIL opportunity must relate to the student’s post-secondary program and be recognized as work-integrated learning by their college or university.
What You’ll Gain
- Paid training in the Steamoji curriculum, tools and facilitation approach.
- Hands-on leadership experience in a growing STEM education business.
- Experience coaching and supporting a part-time facilitator team.
- Practical experience in program delivery, academy operations and customer experience.
- Opportunities to develop leadership, communication and operational problem-solving skills.
- Experience helping launch and grow a new Steamoji academy.
- Opportunity to take on broader academy responsibilities over time, with potential future progression toward Assistant Academy Director or Academy Director responsibilities based on performance, interest and business needs.
Position Details
- Part-time.
- Approximately 12–20 hours per week.
- Weekday shifts are generally 3:00–7:00 p.m.; designated weekday opening shifts may begin around 2:30 p.m.
- Weekend programming is expected to run approximately 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.; when responsible for opening, the Lead shift may begin around 8:30 a.m.
- Schedule and hours may vary based on programming and academy needs.
- In person in Newmarket.
- Pay is based on experience and qualifications.
- Ongoing part-time position; a fixed-term WIL opportunity may also be available for an eligible candidate who meets all Lead requirements.
- Paid training provided.
- Training to begin as soon as possible in preparation for fall programming.
Because this position involves working with children and includes shift-lead responsibility, a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check will be required as a condition of employment. The successful candidate must also hold current CPR certification before beginning independent Lead shifts. If you enjoy working directly with children and are ready to build your leadership experience while helping launch a new STEM academy, we’d love to hear from you.
