Position Overview

The Maid Cafe Staff member is an essential part of creating an immersive, magical, and high-energy themed dining experience for convention attendees. In this role, you are responsible for maintaining the illusion of a charming, hospitable cafe from the moment guests arrive until they leave. You will handle everything from welcoming guests and setting the visual scene to keeping the environment clean and organized. If you are a punctual, quick-learning individual who loves hospitality, aesthetics, and making people smile, this role is a perfect fit.

Time Commitment

- Year-round: None
- As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested
- Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours. Must plan to work the minimum volunteer hour requirement posted on the website
- Pre and post-convention: On-site presence is required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event

Key Responsibilities

Your shift will combine hospitality, crowd management, and cafe upkeep:

- Attendee Check-In: Warmly greet guests at the entrance, verify their tickets, and escort them to their tables
- Line & Crowd Management: Monitor the queue outside the cafe entrance, ensuring that lines stay organized, do not block major pathways, and that waiting guests remain excited and informed about wait times
- Table Clearing & Cleaning:



Maintain high hygiene standards by quickly clearing dishes, wiping down and sanitizing tables and chairs between seatings, and prepping the space for the next group of guests
- Atmosphere & Decor Setup: Assist with transforming the space before the cafe opens by hanging decorations, arranging table settings, and ensuring the aesthetic matches the cafe's theme
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with performers and cafe leadership to ensure a smooth, synchronized flow of service throughout the event

Qualifications

Required

- Punctuality: Absolute reliability regarding shift start times. The cafe operates on strict seating schedules, making on-time attendance critical to avoiding service delays
- Aptitude for Learning: A strong willingness and ability to quickly learn cafe protocols, seating layouts, menu options, and the specific behavioral etiquette required for a themed environment
- Enthusiastic Hospitality: A bright, friendly, and patient demeanor with a passion for customer service and guest satisfaction
- Physical Agility: Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods, move quickly between tables, and perform light lifting (moving chairs, carrying trays of dishes, hanging decorations)

Preferred

- Food Service or Hospitality Experience: Prior experience working in restaurants, cafes, hosting, or busing tables is a major asset
- Themed Event or Cosplay Experience: Familiarity with maid cafes, host cafes, or theatrical/in-character volunteer work
