Garden River First Nation is looking for a Manager of our Lands and Environmental Resources Department. They will be responsible for the management of programs that protect and sustain the lands throughout the territory.

Working with the Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Operations Officer, they will address gaps and the creation of applicable policies to ensure Garden River First Nation (GRFN) needs are met with regard to effective resource management. The Manager, Lands and Environmental Resources will oversee and implement conservation and sustainability plans for the effective management of all natural resources.

- Program management and coordination of development activities
- Effectively interpreting and implementing environmental policies and regulations
- Planning and management of various lands containing natural resources
- Negotiation of contracts with companies and other entities that may wish to use these lands
- Conduct investigations and present results and recommendations
- Develop new, creative, and sustainable solutions for environmental issues
- Monitor and enforce compliance with resource usage regulations
- Contribute to or manage natural resource consulting services and large environmental planning projects
- Supervise the program budget to remain on target




- Prepare and manage proposals, legal land descriptions, and surveys for additions to reserve
- Solicit funds from external agencies for relevant projects

Required Skills

- Post-secondary degree in environmental sciences, life sciences, or a related field
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience
- Proven experience with proposal research and development
- Experience managing projects, personnel, and budgets
- Clear CPIC required as a condition of employment
- Must be willing to travel
- Ability to spend extended time outdoors when required
- Clear driver's abstract and valid G licence
