The Millwright is a key technical position responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all mechanical equipment and rotating assets across the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) and associated facilities. This role ensures the continuous and reliable operation of pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, mixers, chemical feed systems, and other critical process equipment required for safe drinking water production.

The Millwright provides both preventive and corrective maintenance, participates in capital and operational upgrades, and works closely with operations, maintenance, other City staff, and external vendors to maintain system integrity and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Out-of-Scope Manager or designate, an employee in this classification is allowed considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgement and action in making decisions, prioritizing work and solving problems affecting the work and dealing with emergencies as they arise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Mechanical Maintenance & Repair

- Carry out general repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment across all City water treatment facilities.
- Inspect, install, dismantle, clean, service, repair, weld, and maintain equipment including pumps, valves, motors, chemical systems, and rotating machinery.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance programs; identify defects and perform corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures, analyze root causes, and implement long-term solutions.
- Perform precision alignment, leveling, shaft coupling adjustments, and vibration/diagnostic testing.
- Participate in upgrade projects, retrofits,



and commissioning of new equipment.

Operational & Technical Support

- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns and emergencies to minimize downtime.
- Make recommendations to Plant Managers on improvements or changes to preventive maintenance programs.
- Communicate updates to mechanical procedures and ensure operators understand relevant changes.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance staff during troubleshooting.

Documentation & Compliance

- Keep accurate and neat records of all maintenance work performed.
- Requisition parts, supplies, and materials in accordance with City policies.
- Follow all applicable Acts, Regulations, Bylaws, Agreements, policies, and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
- Always maintain clean and safe work areas.

Additional Responsibilities

- Perform fabrication work when required.
- Adapt methods and techniques to varied working conditions.
- Provide maintenance assistance at the Wastewater Treatment Plant when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Good knowledge of equipment used in water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical defects and complete repairs efficiently.
- Ability to use alignment, leveling,



and precision measuring tools.
- Ability to read and understand shop manuals, technical manuals, blueprints, and P&IDs.;
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and provide recommendations.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public and co-workers.
- Valuable organizational and prioritization skills.
- Basic computer knowledge, including the ability to use maintenance management systems, read digital manuals, complete electronic work orders, and communicate via email.

Qualifications:

- Grade 12.
- Journeyman Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate recognized by the Province of Saskatchewan.
- Valid Driver's License.

- Minimum 3–5 years of millwright experience, preferably in water treatment, wastewater treatment, industrial plants, or similar heavy mechanical environments.
- Demonstrated experience working with large pumps, motors, gearboxes, chemical systems, valves, and mechanical process equipment.

- Security background check required.
- Must be willing to take applicable safety and job-related programs, courses, and required medical shots.
- Work may involve exposure to seasonal weather conditions and hazardous environments (noise, chemicals, confined spaces and rotating equipment).
- Physical demands may include lifting, climbing, bending, and working with tools and equipment.
- Expected to carry out independently skilled duties according to accepted practices.
