Occupational Therapy Assistant

Seeking a person with strong skills in working with children, especially children with special needs. Will provide training about Occupational Therapy and will provide all treatment plans. Will provide supervision / problem solving bi-weekly and OT will attend some visits virtually to support. Areas of intervention will include helping develop lifeskills, agile thinking skills, independence with home and community routines, and possible others.

This position will be responsible for implementing a treatment plan written by an Occupational Therapist for children in the Picton area. Intervention will take place in 2 or 3 hour sessions, in the children's homes or sometimes in the community. We are seeking someone motivated to help effect change for kids and families, and interested in learning and being part of a team. Requires some flexibility in hours - after schools or weekends required as negotiated.

Interested candidates do not need to have specific OTA College diploma but should be well versed in children, such as having a background as an Early Childhood Educator, Educational Assissant or Child and Youth Worker. This position would pair well for extra hours for a person with day-time hours at another position. Current need is for Mondays afterschool (Thursdays would be an alternate if Mondays unavailable).

We are anticipating further families to join this program once we have a person in this position. This position is well suited for someone looking to build a career in a helping/therapy profession with on-the-job learning,

with transitioning potentially to a larger role (even full time role) over time.

About CATS:

We are a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Network. We are a group of Occupational Therapists who have come together to share resources and expenses to grow top-notch private Occupational Therapy for paeds and neurodivergent adults. We have 7 physical locations, that are each therapist-owned (Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener, Fergus, Simcoe, Hamilton and Brantford).

In addition we provide home-visiting OT in Toronto and virtual OT across the province. We have a heart for families living in underserviced areas. This program comes about from the question, "What happens if you live in a less urban area of Ontario and have a child who needs private Occupational Therapy services?".

Due to our experience working with virtual services and with OTAs, we felt we might be in a position to answer that question and help families access services.

If spending time with children with special needs (autism) and supporting families in their own homes with life skills goals appeals to you, if you resonate with the pull our organization feels to serve better through new service models, if you're curious about the power of Occupational Therapy to help, this position may be a good fit.

This position begins in September with a training period and onboarding prior to first shifts. Please apply to [email protected]
