Overview
Join our compassionate healthcare team as a Part-Time/Casual Palliative Nurse, where your expertise will make a meaningful difference in patients' lives during their most vulnerable moments. This role offers the flexibility to provide specialized nursing care in home care, community setting. As a Palliative Nurse, you will deliver holistic, patient-centered care focused on comfort, pain management, and dignity, ensuring each patient receives respectful and empathetic support tailored to their unique needs.
Duties
- Provide comprehensive palliative nursing care to patients with reliable illnesses across various settings such as home, hospital, or assisted living facilities
- Assess patient conditions regularly, monitor symptoms, and implement individualized pain and symptom management plans
- Administer medications accurately, including opioids and other controlled substances, following strict protocols and medical orders
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and update care plans that prioritize patient comfort and preferences
- Educate patients and families about disease progression, medication use, symptom control strategies, and advance care planning
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly using electronic health records systems like Epic or Cerner
- Assist with laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy when necessary and ensure timely communication of results to the healthcare team
Skills
- Proven experience in hospital or acute care settings with a focus on pain management and palliative care
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration protocols, and medical office procedures
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and case management
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, seniors, dementia patients, and those requiring home or assisted living care
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to handle complex cases involving chronic illness or end-of-life needs
- Laboratory experience including phlebotomy techniques for specimen collection and processing
- Effective communication skills to educate patients and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
