Job Title: Printshop Lead

Division: Operations

Department: Printshop

Reports to: Printshop Manager

Position Type: Unpaid Volunteer

Location: Remote with occasional in-person meetings (location-dependent), expected to be on-site during convention dates, including the day before and the day after for setup and teardown.

About Anthro SoCal

Anthro SoCal is a community-driven convention celebrating furry fandom through art, performance, gaming, and social connection. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer team. Anthro SoCal was formally known as Another Furry Con in 2024-2025.

Position Overview

The Printshop Lead is a key operational leadership role responsible for planning, executing, and managing the physical signage footprint across all convention spaces. Operating directly under the Printshop Manager, you will play a crucial role during pre-convention planning by defining sign locations and anticipating the event's visual communication needs. On site, you will lead the frontline Printshop Specialists, directing the physical deployment, monitoring, and recovery of all signage assets. Additionally, you will oversee post-event inventory management, ensuring signs are properly archived or disposed of according to the master sign index. If you are an organized, logistics-minded leader with strong spatial awareness and a passion for seamless event operations, this position is a great fit.

Time Commitment

- Year-round: None
- As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested
- Convention weekend: On-site presence is required to work a set schedule
- Pre and post-convention: On-site presence is required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event

Key Responsibilities

Your role focuses on pre-event logistics planning, team supervision, precision placement management, and post-event inventory control:

- Pre-Con Signage Planning: Work closely with the Printshop Manager during the weeks leading up to the event to map out venue layouts, define spatial sign locations, and accurately forecast signage production and hardware needs
- On-Site Team Supervision: Direct and mentor the team of Printshop Specialists during setup, live convention operations, and teardown, ensuring tasks are clearly delegated and shifts run smoothly
- Placement & Index Audit: Oversee the physical installation of all directional markers, room panels, and informational stands. You will conduct oversign to ensure Printshop Specialists place signs accurately according to the master sign index
- Setup & Teardown Leadership: Be on site before the convention opens and after it closes to lead the physical assembly, deployment, collection, and packing of all signage hardware and media
- Inventory Control & Disposition: Manage post-event sign processing by executing disposition guidelines outlined in the master sign index–ensuring reusable signs are safely cataloged and stored for future years while outdated or damaged materials are properly recycled/disposed of
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Serve as an on-the-ground liaison for other department leads and Anthro SoCal leadership to resolve urgent gaps or last-minute signage placement adjustments during the event

Qualifications

Required:

- Proven Team Leadership: Ability to supervise, motivate, and direct a team of volunteers in a fast-paced physical environment with tight deadlines
- Spatial & Logistical Planning Skills:

Exceptional organization; ability to read venue floor plans, translate spatial layouts into actionable deployment steps, and systematically track inventory using a master sign index
- Pre-Con & On-Site Availability: Full commitment to participating in pre-convention planning, as well as being present on site early for setup days and remaining through teardown completion
- Physical Capability & Endurance: Ability to walk extensive venue distances, stand for prolonged periods, and lift or move signage hardware and supply boxes during setup and teardown
- Outstanding Decorum & Communication: High standard of professionalism, composure, and hospitality when communicating with staff, venue representatives, and leadership under event pressure

Preferred:

- Fandom & Convention Knowledge: Strong understanding of furry convention operations, attendee crowd flow, and venue navigation, enabling you to anticipate high-traffic bottlenecks and gaps intuitively
- Event Logistics or Staging Background: Prior experience leading venue setups, trade show logistics, or similar operations
- Problem-Solving & Agility: The ability to make quick, sound decisions on the fly when unexpected venue constraints require shifting planned sign placements
