This job is for a full time Recreation Facility Operator within the Department of Community & Leisure Services. The operator works under the direction of the Arena Supervisor (or designate) and supports arena and event facilities operations.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include performing all aspects of ice maintenance such as operating the ice resurfacer, ice making, and ice repair. The role also involves janitorial duties, including cleaning dressing rooms, seating areas, and washrooms. In addition, the position assists with event set‑up and take‑down, supports parks operations such as grass cutting, tree maintenance, and general park upkeep, and may provide assistance to other City departments as operational needs arise.
Qualifications
Grade 12 or GED
Certificate or Diploma in Recreation Facility Maintenance is preferred
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Preference given to applicants with certifications in: Arena Operators Certificate, Refrigeration Certificate, Pesticide Applicator Certificate, Turf Maintenance and Irrigation Certificate, Horticulture Certificate, Tree Care Qualifications, or any related field
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Compensation and Advantages
CUPE 2359 position, starting rate $27.52 per hour

Position includes combination of early morning, evening, and weekend shifts within a four‑week rotating schedule. Staff work 10‑hour shifts and every second weekend.
