ABOUT MAAN FARMS
Maan Farms is a third-generation farm and agritourism destination in Abbotsford, BC. Each fall, our Halloween Fright Festival combines haunted attractions, live entertainment, food and an energetic midway on a real working farm.
We are looking for a highly organized Assistant Stage Manager / Show Operations Coordinator to help keep our performers, show areas and nightly performance program ready to go.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on live-operations position.
Working alongside the Lead Stage Manager, you will help coordinate performers, rehearsals, costumes, props, microphones, checklists and assigned show tracks across four outdoor midway shows.
You will also be trained as a backup show caller so the performance program never depends entirely on one person.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Help coordinate performer calls, check-ins, attendance, places, breaks and coverage.
- Maintain cast availability, role assignments and understudy information.
- Support rehearsals, blocking, notes and quick performance refreshers.
- Prepare performers, costumes, props, masks, microphones, radios and other show materials.
- Run pre-show checks and identify missing, damaged or unready items before they become live problems.
- Call assigned show tracks and help maintain timing and performance consistency.
- Execute approved weather, technical-failure and performer-callout plans.
- Help manage backstage and performer areas safely and professionally.
- Track show changes, incidents, asset locations, replacements and nightly resets.
- Step into additional responsibility when the Lead Stage Manager is supporting another stage or solving a larger issue.
- Help produce clear checklists and nightly reports.
WHO WILL DO WELL HERE You may be an Assistant Stage Manager, Production Coordinator, Stagecraft graduate, live-event operator or an emerging production professional ready for more responsibility.
Robust candidates from adjacent fields are encouraged to apply.
You will likely thrive here if you:
- Are extremely dependable with call times, details and follow-through.
- Enjoy helping performers feel prepared and supported.
- Can communicate clearly on a radio in a busy environment.
- Notice missing props, dead batteries and schedule gaps before other people do.
- Stay calm when plans change.
- Are comfortable taking direction while still acting independently within an approved plan.
- Want to learn how to call and operate multiple live shows.
- Care about safety, consistency and leaving the next shift properly prepared.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in stage management, theatre production, events, attractions, festivals, backstage operations or a similar environment.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Comfort using schedules, checklists and basic production documents.
- Willingness to learn show calling and technical preflight procedures.
- Comfort working outdoors during evenings in rain, cold, fog, loud audio,
masks and crowds.
- Reliable transportation to Maan Farms in Abbotsford.
- Availability for rehearsals and preparation beginning as soon as possible.
- Strong evening and weekend availability during the intensive September and October operating period.
COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE
- $35–$45 per hour, based on relevant experience and demonstrated ability.
- Seasonal hourly position.
- Hours vary by phase and include rehearsals, preparation, evening/weekend performances and post-season closeout.
- Shortlisted candidates will be paid for a practical, on-site interview.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through Indeed with
- Your resume.
- A short note describing the most complicated live event, production or backstage operation you have helped run.
- Your availability from now through the end of October.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a paid practical interview at Maan Farms. We are looking for calm judgment, organization and communication—not a perfect theatre vocabulary. Applications will be reviewed as they arrive. The position will remain open until filled.
Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
