- Provide leadership and direction for daily plant operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), TSSA regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies.
- Act as Acting Chief Operating Engineer during the Chief Operating Engineer’s absence, providing oversight of regulated operations and maintaining compliance with TSSA requirements.
- Monitor plant performance, review process data, and implement improvements to optimize reliability, efficiency, and production outcomes.
- Lead troubleshooting activities and coordinate resources to resolve operational issues.
- Support plant inspections, audits, and regulatory activities, including TSSA, ESA, and other applicable requirements.
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of production, maintenance, safety, and compliance activities.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development to supervisors, Operating Engineers, operators, and support personnel.
- Oversee training programs, including Operating Engineer onboarding, qualification progression, and certification requirements.
- Ensure training programs align with TSSA and SOPEEC requirements.
- Promote a robust safety culture through employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality,
and other departments to support reliability initiatives, projects, and plant improvements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and operational performance.
- Maintain positive employee and labour relations while ensuring compliance with company policies and the collective agreement.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate issued by TSSA (Ontario). A 1st Class Certificate is considered an asset.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in chemical manufacturing, process operations, power engineering, or a related industrial environment.
- Previous leadership experience in a supervisory, management, or senior operations role.
- Strong understanding of TSSA regulations, OHSA requirements, CSA standards, and applicable codes.
- Experience with continuous process operations and chemical manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret process data and make sound operational decisions.
- Experience with plant control systems (DCS) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, employee development, and operational excellence.
