5Blue Process Equipment Inc. is an engineering and fabrication company that provides custom process equipment to the oil and gas industry in Canada and internationally.
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented P&ID; designer to lead the implementation and ongoing development of CADWorx P&ID; Professional within our engineering and drafting workflow.
This is a hands-on technical role combining intelligent P&ID; system configuration, production drafting, standards development, quality control, and team training. Initially, the successful candidate will configure the system and serve as our primary designer producing P&IDs; for natural gas processing and packaged equipment projects.
As the system and associated standards become established, this person will train and support other designers in becoming proficient with the software so P&ID; production can be shared across the drafting team. The role may then expand into CADWorx piping design, equipment layouts, or other areas of design and drafting based on the individual’s aptitude, experience, and career interests.
Responsibilities and DutiesSystem Implementation and Standards
- Configure and implement CADWorx P&ID; Professional to support 5Blue’s engineering, drafting, and fabrication workflows.
- Develop and maintain database structures, data fields, symbols, templates, drawing conventions, and other system components aligned with 5Blue standards.
- Help establish practical workflows for engineering data input, drawing development, checking, revision control, and project execution.
- Create and maintain P&ID; drafting standards, procedures, and supporting documentation.
P&ID; Production and Quality
- Initially serve as the primary designer responsible for producing accurate, high-quality P&IDs; for natural gas processing and packaged equipment projects.
- Convert engineering markups and technical information into complete, consistent, and fabrication ready P&IDs.;
- Review P&IDs; for drafting accuracy, completeness,
consistency, constructability, and compliance with company and project standards.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, designers, and fabrication personnel to resolve discrepancies and improve drawing quality.
- Complete assigned work safely, accurately, and in accordance with project schedules, company procedures, and applicable standards.
Training and Team Development
- Train and support other designers in the effective use of CADWorx P&ID; Professional.
- Help develop proficiency across the drafting team so P&ID; work can be distributed as the system matures.
- Provide ongoing technical guidance and encourage consistent use of established standards and workflows.
- Contribute to a collaborative, professional, and supportive team environment.
Future Development Opportunities
- Expand into CADWorx piping design, equipment layouts, or other drafting disciplines depending on workload, experience, aptitude, and career interests.
- Contribute to the continued improvement of company design systems, standards, and processes.
Qualifications and SkillsRequired
- Approximately five or more years of relevant P&ID; design or drafting experience.
- Strong experience producing P&IDs; for natural gas processing, oil and gas, or comparable process facilities.
- Advanced AutoCAD skills.
- Experience using or supporting an intelligent, database connected P&ID; platform such as CADWorx P&ID; Professional, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Hexagon Smart P&ID;, or a comparable system.
- Ability to interpret process engineering markups and convert them into accurate, complete, and fabrication ready P&IDs.;
- Working knowledge of process equipment, piping, instrumentation, tagging conventions, and P&ID; standards.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and quality control skills.
- Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred
- Direct experience configuring or implementing CADWorx P&ID; Professional, including databases, symbols, templates, data fields, and related workflows.
- Experience configuring or implementing another intelligent P&ID; platform. Candidates with strong parallel software experience will be considered if they are comfortable learning CADWorx P&ID; Professional.
- Experience training or supporting other designers.
- Experience in equipment fabrication or packaged equipment environment.
- Diploma in Engineering Design Technology (EDDT) from NAIT or SAIT, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience with CADWorx piping design, equipment layouts, or related multidiscipline drafting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.

Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 8-hour day shifts.
