Senior Tax & Technical Accounting Specialist Schedule: Hybrid, 2 days/week in Squamish office Job Type: Full-Time Contract, 20 Months (Maternity Leave Coverage) Compensation: $120K-$145K annually Help us pull carbon out of the sky - and make sure the tax strategy behind it is bulletproof. Our leading industry client is scaling direct air capture technology to fight climate change at a global level. Their work sits at the intersection of engineering breakthroughs, government incentive programs, and a fast-growing multinational structure - which means their tax and technical accounting function is anything but routine.
We're looking for a seasoned CPA with deep tax expertise to step into a critical advisory role for 20 months, covering a maternity leave. This isn't a back-office compliance seat - you'll be the organization's go-to expert on corporate tax, SR&ED;, and complex technical accounting, working directly with our U.S.-based parent company, external advisors (PwC, KPMG), and the engineers building the technology itself. Why this role is different - You'll own the big calls.
From SR&ED; strategy to cross-border tax positions to IFRS/US GAAP judgment calls on complex transactions - your expertise drives the decisions.
- You'll work at the center of the action. Direct exposure to engineering teams, government funding programs, transfer pricing, and a U.S. parent company relationship - real variety, not repetitive compliance work.
- You'll be trusted, not micromanaged. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you'll operate independently, backed by top-tier external advisors when you need them.
- You'll make an impact fast. 20 months, high visibility,
high ownership - this is a role for someone who wants to walk in and make a mark. What you'll focus on - Lead Canadian corporate tax compliance and advisory (T2s, 1120-F, provisions) and manage our relationship with PwC
- Own our SR&ED; program end-to-end - from technical eligibility assessments with engineering teams to CRA audit support
- Serve as the primary finance contact for KPMG's annual audit
- Weigh in on technical accounting treatment under IFRS and US GAAP for complex transactions
- Support transfer pricing governance and intercompany reporting alongside our U.S. parent's tax department What you bring - CPA designation, with 10+ years of progressive experience across public practice, industry tax, technical accounting, and/or audit
- Hands-on SR&ED; experience - you've led, reviewed, or audited claims and know how to work with technical teams
- US tax exposure and comfort working alongside a U.S.-based parent organization
- Solid grounding in Canadian corporate tax, with strong IFRS/US GAAP knowledge
- A track record of exercising independent judgment on complex, ambiguous issues - and communicating your reasoning clearly to stakeholders across disciplines
- Bonus points for CRA audit experience, multinational structure exposure, or transfer pricing familiarity The details - Term: Full time contract, 20 months (maternity leave coverage)
- Location: Hybrid - 2 days per week in office
- Reports to: Director of Finance If you're a tax specialist who wants meaningful, high-autonomy work on a mission that actually matters - we'd love to hear from you. #BRBC Contract Info / Information sur le contrat - Job ID / No. du Poste: 58151723
