TAX EXECUTIVES INSTITUTE
Toronto
Were seeking a Tax Manager who brings deep technical tax, compliance and reporting expertise and a forward-looking mindset around AI-driven practice improvement. This role offers broad exposure to federal, state, and indirect tax — bringing sound technical judgment and the initiative to make the function faster and better than you found it.
Lead end-to-end preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including current and deferred tax calculations, valuation allowance analysis, and preparation of related financial statement footnote disclosures
Oversee the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns, estimates, and extensions for consolidated, combined, and standalone entities
Manage responses to federal and state audit inquiries and tax notices, including preparing supporting documentation and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
Lead tax planning initiatives, research, and analysis to develop efficient, compliant tax strategies
Prepare or review tax-related journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and other month-end close activities
Monitor tax law changes and provide guidance to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Maintain and enhance internal tax controls, recommending and implementing process improvements
Lead the R&D tax credit process, partnering with internal teams and external advisors to identify qualifying activities and ensure proper documentation
Draft technical memos and support materials to substantiate tax positions
Collaborate with the Tax Director and cross-functional teams on various tax initiatives and special projects across the business
Reach for AI first — use Claude, Claude Code, and similar tools to accelerate research,
draft technical memos, analyze notices, run calculations, and design repeatable workflows
Default to AI, dont defer to it. The tools give you leverage; the work is still yours. Every output you put your name on — whether its a written position, a calculation, or a workflow result — is something you can explain and stand behind
Tax work is multi-layered — some steps demand deep judgment, others not as much. Map the difference. Automate whats mechanical, build structured workflows for whats in between, and protect your focus for the analysis and positions that actually require you
Bachelors degree in Accounting; CPA certification required
5+ years of experience in corporate taxes, including both provision and compliance
Solid knowledge of federal, state tax laws as well as US GAAP
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Strong attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with internal teams and external partners
High level of ethics, integrity, and professional judgment
Youve rebuilt something because of AI and it runs faster now. When something new lands, you dont prompt and paste — you interrogate it, pressure-test it, and know exactly where its wrong before anyone else does
Experience in Big 4 public accounting or a publicly traded company
Masters degree in Taxation, JD, or LLM with a focus in Tax
Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems
