Position Title: Seniors Program Worker
Classification: Union
Type of Position: Part time 31 hours/week, contract
Conditions of Work: Onsite
Seniors Program Worker, 31 hours per week. Part-time Contract. This is an Onsite position. This position will fall under the collective agreement between the Community Social Services Bargaining Association of Unions (CSSBA) and Community Social Services Employers’ Association (CSSEA).
The position will fall under the conditions of employment as a member of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU). This position is a contract position for 18-months, with an anticipated end-date of December 31, 2027 or until the return of the incumbent, with the possibility of extension.
Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.

Job Summary The Seniors Worker supports Kiwassa’s vision to grow a welcoming and inclusive community through creating engaging activities for seniors to promote social and physical well-being and belonging. The Seniors Worker plans and provides hands-on activities for participants in multicultural inclusive programs and will be responsible for appropriate and inclusive activity planning for a group of seniors, program reporting and administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans,
organizes and implements activities and experiences for individual and group needs of all participants within a consistent service delivery framework. Programs include lunches, ESL and skill-building.
- Assess needs and abilities and ensures activities are appropriate and inclusive
- Refers to or consults with the Seniors’ Program Coordinator when necessary
- Ensures participant safety and upholds safety standards as per Kiwassa requirements
- Ensures all policies and procedures pertaining to classroom, outdoor spaces and facilities are followed
- Participates on the Seniors Advisory Committee, learning of needs and interests and incorporating them into programming
- Builds relationships with community groups and networks to increase reach to eligible individuals
- Supports program and event registration, organizing events and venues and ordering food
- Purchases supplies within budget and Kiwassa standards
- Maintains program and participant records
- Builds strong working (internal) and partnering (external) relationships Promotes and represents the organization in the community, supports and attends events- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A post-secondary certificate in a relevant discipline
- A minimum of six (6) months’ experience in a service delivery setting, with at least three months’ experience working with seniors
- Emergency First Aid
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
