About The Role We are seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join BrainBox AI's Algorithm Team in Montreal. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of advanced AI-powered systems that optimize HVAC systems in commercial buildings, making them smarter, more efficient, and environmentally friendly. You will collaborate with a team of experienced software developers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers to support and enhance BrainBox AI's autonomous platform.

The position emphasizes growth, innovation, and the application of cutting-edge technologies to real-world environmental challenges. As part of our dynamic team, you will be instrumental in building scalable backend services, developing APIs, and working within cloud environments to deliver impactful solutions.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or possess equivalent practical experience. Candidates should have 0-3 years of software development experience,



including internships or co-op placements. Foundational proficiency in Python for backend development is essential, along with exposure to API or microservice development, preferably with frameworks like FastAPI.

Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, containerization tools like Docker, and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB is required. Basic understanding of event-driven systems or messaging tools like Kafka will be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and effective communication abilities are crucial for success in this role.

Fluency in both French and English is mandatory, as the role involves collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.

- Support the development and maintenance of backend services for BrainBox AI's platform and tools.
- Contribute to building APIs and microservices using Python and FastAPI.
- Assist in implementing and optimizing data processing workflows utilizing Kafka and related streaming technologies.
- Help develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-based applications and services on AWS.
- Design and maintain DynamoDB data models and other application data structures to ensure efficient data management.
- Utilize Docker to containerize applications, supporting consistent deployment practices across environments.
- Collaborate effectively with senior developers, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to deliver robust technical solutions.




- Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to uphold high-quality standards.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, following best engineering practices.
- Engage in Agile methodologies by participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Learn and utilize internal tools and frameworks such as Kiro as required for project development.
