Position:
Director – Lands and Resources (Full Time)
Location:
The Chapleau Cree First Nation (CCFN) is a member of the Mushkegowuk Council and is situated on the Fox Lake Reserve, located just outside the community of Chapleau. The community is approximately four hours north of Sault Ste. Marie and two hours southwest of Timmins.
Description:
Chapleau Cree First Nation has and continues to express its occupation, rights and interests over its Traditional Territory for several decades. Recently in 2018, a BCR was passed by leadership to form a Lands and Resources Department as a priority to address ongoing consultation requests by third parties and governments in an organized, thorough and effective manner so as to allow membership and leadership meaningful information sharing and appropriate time to make effective decisions to protect and/or mitigate impacts on Aboriginal and Treaty Rights along with upholding CCFN’s inherent obligations as stewards of the land.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree from a related filed – Lands, Law, Economics
Over 10 years of experience in a managerial capacity
Over 5 years direct responsibility overseeing staff
Direct experience writing policy and procedures
Direct experience overseeing and coordinating fiscal budgets
Skills:
Strong dedication and commitment to upholding Aboriginal and Treaty Rights
Ability to work collaboratively and build networks external to CCFN
Capable of research and development required to grow a LRE department
Robust interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
Capable of strategic planning and growing and reporting on qualitative and quantitative results.
Strong time management skills and able to implement directives and a strategic plan
Capable of generating applications as needed to various funds and programs
Duties/Responsibilities:
Grow CCFN’s notification and referrals handling process as it relates to CCFN’s Consultation Protocol.
Support the building and implementation of a Strategic Plan for the Lands, Resources and Economic Development Dept.
Researches, verifies and compiles land status reports on reserve lands for distribution to Natural Resources Canada, land surveyors, membership, clients and interested parties in order for them to determine land tenure, accessibility and feasibility of a land and transaction.
Implement, schedule and manage land activities with local government and corporations/companies.
Development of Memorandum of Understanding s where applicable.
Utilizing the combined resources currently available, identify and grow necessary funding and resources to staff up the department to meet the needs of CCFN.
Provide briefings and strategic directions to CCFN’s leadership on L and and Resource related files.
Establish department policies and procedures where required.
Organize community workshops, engagements and consultations.
Direct the development of staff and resources required to achieve full implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Other related duties as deemed necessary
Contract: $ 67,000.00 - $ 72,000.00
