Position title: Systems Administrator I
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer
Employee status: Full-time, Permanent
Supervises: NoneHours per week: 35Compensation: Group 7 (MoveUP 378) - $40.35 per hour Position Purpose
Under the general direction of the Chief Technology Officer, the System Administrator I is responsible for resolving system administration related hardware and software issues; provides support for servers and microcomputer environment; plans, automates, manages, and supports a growing number of 7x24 systems; coordinates efforts among the systems, desktop, database and operations groups to ensure timely implementation and support for all Society’s systems; assists in the development of operating procedures, standards and practices; provides helpdesk support to the user community such as implementing software upgrades, troubleshooting and resolving problems.
Duties and Responsibilities Perform desktop support and help desk consultation
Provide system administration, analysis, and functions for server systems
Develop project schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet project schedule requirements
Resolve, record, and track all hardware and software problems daily
Interface with users and provide guidance in selection of technologies
Install, configure and support a variety of computer hardware and software including but not limited to server and desktop operating systems/applications and network hardware and software
Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with IT policies and procedures
Develop documentation to support daily processes and operations related to managed hardware and software
Develop documentation, checklists, and processes for communicating appropriate support information to the users
Identify improvement opportunities including but not limited to tools, processes, procedures, Installation, configuration and troubleshooting techniques
Manage and maintain security surveillance systems
Manage server security including anti-virus, permissions, and accessibility
Review systems logs on a daily basis and correct potential problems
Implement and maintain all operational procedures
Lives the mission and values of the AMS daily
Other duties as required Qualifications and Experience University degree from an accredited University Microsoft and other industry recognized certification(s) preferred Minimum of three years of experience in computer operations and technical support including at least one year at the enterprise management level Excellent customer services skills Transparent and concise verbal and written communication skills Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, technical personnel and consultants Understanding of SAN and NAS architecture, DHCP, DNS administration in a mixed OS environment Knowledge of management for HP/Dell servers,
Virtualization (VMware), Active Directory deployment and management Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles and controls, including endpoint security, access management, patching, vulnerability management, and incident escalation.
Familiarity with approved AI-enabled productivity tools, including Microsoft 365 Copilot or equivalent technologies, and their security, privacy and responsible-use considerations.
Ability to identify, document and escalate operational, cybersecurity and technology risks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Experience in disaster recovery management Technical knowledge of PC’s, Mac’s, smart phones, Local Area Networks Technical knowledge of standard office tools including: Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and other desktop tools Basic knowledge of operations software such as distribution and backup software Understanding of Information technology principles and procedures, including record keeping, maintenance and operation; modern office procedures Effective project management Informed of current industry trends and best practices Interest in acquiring new skills via hands on training, classroom training, and self-directed learning Ability to prioritize and work under pressure to meet deadlines Ability to work both independently and within a team environment Valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle Able to work overtime, shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as required Application deadline: 11:59pm August 21, 2026
