What You’ll Do
As a Hydrovac Operator, you will safely operate hydrovac excavation equipment to support underground utility work, excavation projects, and civil construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate hydrovac trucks and related excavation equipment
Perform daylighting, potholing, trenching, slot trenching, debris removal, and non-destructive excavation
Expose underground utilities while minimizing risk and damage
Conduct pre-trip inspections, hazard assessments, and daily equipment checks
Follow WorkSafeBC regulations, safe excavation practices, and company safety procedures
Maintain daily logs, inspection reports, and excavation records
Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance of equipment
Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, subcontractors, and utility representatives
Assist with general labour and construction tasks as needed
Represent the company professionally with clients and the public
What You Bring
Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement
Clean driver’s abstract and ability to maintain insurable driving status
Experience operating hydrovac or heavy equipment in a construction or utility environment preferred
Knowledge of underground utility locating and safe excavation practices
Ability to read utility locates, site plans, and construction drawings
Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and professionalism
Reliable, adaptable, and able to work in changing site and weather conditions
WHMIS and construction safety training, or willingness to obtain
Additional certifications such as OFA, Traffic Control, Ground Disturbance, or Confined Space are considered assets
Working Conditions
This role involves working outdoors in varying weather and construction site conditions. Work may include physical labour, overtime, travel to various job sites, and working around active roadways, underground utilities, and heavy equipment.
