The Opportunity Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for Tutor and Writing Advisors to provide drop-in academic support to students of all levels in both liberal studies and studio-based courses. These are casual positions commencing as soon as possible until April 2027. Hours of work will be approximately 12 hours per week Monday - Friday, typically scheduled within 12pm – 6pm.
Key Responsibilities The Tutor / Writing Advisor will assist students with: Understanding course content, outcomes, and assignments
Developing writing, research, critical thinking, and skills
Avoiding plagiarism and other academic integrity violations
Using appropriate citation standards
Managing time, studying effectively, and organizing assignments/projects
Offer one-on-one tutoring focused on writing, research, and course-related content
Support students with grammar, usage, and professional/personal writing
Track and report on tutoring center usage monthly Qualifications: The following qualifications have been determined to promote likelihood of success in the role. In alignment with the principles of inclusion, individuals with an alternative equivalent qualification may be considered.
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such BFA, BDes, or BA Robust knowledge of art history, contemporary art, craft, and design, and studio practice.
Familiarity with citations standards, particularly MLA format Facilitation or teaching experience is an asset
Experience working with individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges is an asset Competencies: AUArts has established five common competencies to promote unity of vision and action in the organization: Healthy Spaces Active Inclusion Creative Innovation Collaborative Practice Strategic Leadership As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit (Local 071/006), this casual position pays an hourly rate of $28.36 plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation and union dues will be collected at a rate of 1.5% per pay. As this position is casual in nature, there will be no guarantee of hours or a regular schedule.
