There is an opening for a Wastewater Systems Technologist position within the Infrastructure Services Department, Environmental Services Division. Reporting to the Supervisor of Wastewater, the successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of technical, operational, and administrative duties related to the planning, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of the City's wastewater collection and treatment systems, including the following responsibilities:

What you will be doing

- Assists the Manager and Supervisor of Wastewater with daily operational work load relating to wastewater maintenance operations, contract management (including Requests for Tender and Requests for Proposals), and pump station operations.
- Project management for pump station construction and maintenance activities.
- Evaluates staff methodology in the field in comparison to documented procedures for conformance and reports non-conformance issues.
- Creates standard operating procedures, completes maintenance record keeping, and provides status reports on contracted services.
- Acts as a technical expert for outside staff and regularly operates and trains staff on field equipment such as chemical/gas analyzers, leak survey equipment, pressure monitoring sensors, and valve maintenance equipment, along with related analytical software packages for each.
- Coordinates work plans for internal and contracted services staff, supporting both with information transfer, work order processing and responds to related issues.
- Performs Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) data review and creates reports.




- Additional duties may be required based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

Education

3-year College Diploma in environmental studies, construction engineering or a related field. Level I license for Water Distribution and Water Distribution and Supply as issued by the MOECC OR Level I license for Wastewater Collection as issued by the MOECC. Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation as issued by Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

Experience and Knowledge

- 2-3 years of related experience working within a licensed municipal drinking water distribution and wastewater collection system.
- Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office, OnPoint GIS (user); Work Management Systems; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Locate software, Leak Detection equipment and program, Odalog equipment, Oda-stat software.
- Strong knowledge of related Federal, Provincial, and Municipal Acts, regulations, by-laws, and associated guidance documents.

Your compensation

This position is within Grade 10 of the Inside Workers union salary schedule and the hourly range is $87,797 to $93,311. We offer a comprehensive benefit package along with the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirment System (OMERS).

Hours of work





The regular hours of work are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday inclusive (35 hours per week).
