The First Peoples Justice Centre of Tiohtià:ke / Montreal (FPJTCM) is a young, specialized, and vibrant organization that works in partnership with the Indigenous community and the justice system in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal to support, inform, and empower Indigenous persons in addressing their justice issues. The FPJCTM also aims to indigenize the justice system, including educating key players and creating culturally safe processes.

One of our programs is to support Indigenous people who are navigating the criminal justice system by offering alternative measures at both the municipal and provincial courts of Montreal. The FPJCTM is looking for a Restorative Justice Coordinator who is empathetic, experienced in conflict resolution and program development. The position requires partnership building skills, casework and administrative duties related to the delivery of court related programming.

Duties and responsibilities

- Coordinate efforts to advance and collaborate on developing Indigenous justice processes, including the implementation of a Gladue Court, at the Palais de Justice.
- Coordinate the General Alternative Measures Program at the provincial court of Montreal for Indigenous individuals accused of a crime;
- Provide emotional and cultural support specific to the needs of individuals traversing the justice system.
- Developing and supporting comprehensive wellness plans/alternative measures plans for program participants.
- Working closely with judicial actors, Centres d'aide aux victimes d'actes criminels (CAVAC), community organizations and social services.




- Build better partnerships with Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales (DPCP).
- Participate in meetings, strategic planning or committees related to specialized court programs in Montreal.
- Provide training to judicial actors and/or resources working within the Indigenous justice sector.
- Identify opportunities to develop Indigenous-specific programming at the Justice Centre, particularly in response to common provincial court infractions.
- Coordinate peace making circles when required for situations involving a victim.
- Maintain files, database, and write reports as needed.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience:

- University degree in social sciences, a related field or five years of work experience in a similar role;
- Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues and the effects of intergenerational trauma;
- Experience working with clientele who have experiences of homelessness and/or precarity;
- Knowledge of the judicial system in Canada;
- Effective in program delivery and administration;
- A caring, supportive and engaging approach to the experiences of others;
- Good planning and organizational skills;
- Experience in case management and intervention;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle delicate personal information with respect;
- Collaborative in working with others;
- Proficiency in Google suite, standard software applications, and video conferencing platforms.
