Early Childhood Educator Needed at Starchild Centres Ltd., Mill Bay BC, Canada

If you, as a childcare educator, are feeling confined in your current facility or would love to be spending more time with children outdoors, we have the perfect solution. Starchild Centres Ltd., with two licensed 24-child day-cares located on a 9-acre hobby farm and a 2-acre pasture and forest property on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC, is in need of enthusiastic ECE's with Infant/Toddler certification and preferably, with Montessori or Waldorf experience or certification.

Our focus is upon outdoor education: offering a unique holistic nature-based curriculum combining Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia philosophies and methods. During the past 11 years, we have noted that any of the above philosophies, combined with nature education, provides holistic educational experiences for children resulting in confident, competent, caring individuals.

Children's outside activities include: vegetable gardening, tree planting, feeding the chickens and Koi fish, petting the miniature goats, donkeys, alpacas and nature hikes.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

· Valid ECE with Infant /Toddler or Special Needs Certification

· Valid First Aid Certificate and Criminal Record Check

· Doctor's note of good Health

· Montessori or Waldorf experience or certification is a plus

· Interest in and willingness to actively involve self and children in gardening, tree





planting and attending to the chickens and animals.

· Be an effective, positive communicator with children, colleagues, and parents

· Be able to motivate and work effectively and harmoniously with other staff members

· Be a positive, enthusiastic, energetic, dedicated and understanding

Preferably 2 to 3 years teaching experience

Key responsibilities and Duties:

· Maintain a safe, clean, stimulating, positive environment for children

· Collaborate effectively and positively with other staff members and parents

· Plan, implement and supervise classroom and outdoor activities and care for children

aged 10 months to 5 years old

· Design and develop learning programs to facilitate children's emotional, cognitive,

social and physical development

· Be familiar with our educational philosophy and follow the daycare’s policies and

procedures and Child Care Licensing regulations

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. With wage enhancement $27-$30 per hour, with Extended Medical Benefits offered.
