Position Title

Early Years Resource Worker

Temporary Contract position
15 hours/week (September-June)

Reporting To

Program and Training Manager

Position Summary

Families First is a non-profit organization located in Fort Saskatchewan providing support to community members and families from a prevention and early intervention perspective. The Early Years Resource Worker supports play based programming designed to engage young children (0-6 years) and their caregivers in Sturgeon Region. These play groups facilitate play experiences between caregiver and children which serve to increase enrichment opportunities within all developmental domains. This position is generously funded through St. Albert Sturgeon Community Foundation to enhance programming offered within Sturgeon Communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development in collaboration with Family Resource Network staff
- Drive to and from rural community locations to offer drop in play based programming along with Family Resource Network staff
- Provide information, resources and referrals about child development and community resources to families
- Prepare parent information resources, educational materials, and program displays that promote child development, parenting strategies, and community supports. Design engaging play centres and activities that reinforce featured topics through hands-on learning.
- Encourage parent-child interaction through play-based learning and model positive engagement strategies.
- Use a trauma informed, inclusive, strength based,



family centered approach when supporting and encouraging families
- Assist with setting up and taking down program spaces, ensuring a secure, clean, and organized environment throughout programming
- Assist with preparing, serving, and cleaning up nutritious snacks in accordance with food safety guidelines, while encouraging positive social interactions and healthy eating habits during snack time.
- Monitor program participation and contribute ideas for enhancing existing programming based on participant feedback and observations.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and complete required documentation.

Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in human services field- related early childhood development field is preferred
- At least 2 years of experience supporting children and their families
- Registration with your regulatory body if applicable
- Solid knowledge of brain science, attachment theory, child development, trauma, and resiliency
- Triple P, Circle of Security Parenting, FLIGHT, ASQ training considered an asset
- Empathetic and passionate about supporting families and community
- Flexible, adaptable, and excited to learn
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to provide criminal record check and intervention record check
- Willingness to embrace the culture and values of Families First Society
- Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to perform the physical demands of loading, lifting toys (up to 20 pounds)
