We provide non-destructive examination, inspection, and asset integrity services to the oil and gas and new-construction industries.

We are looking for a practical, motivated Safety & Compliance Manager who can strengthen our existing safety program and help build the systems needed to support our growth.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on position with responsibility for updating, implementing, and overseeing the company’s health and safety management system.

We currently maintain a comprehensive safety program and valid SECOR certification. The program was developed approximately three years ago and must now be updated to reflect our current operations, expanded service lines, and planned workforce growth.

A primary objective of this position will be preparing the company for the transition from SECOR to COR certification and successfully guiding the organization through the required audit process.

This role combines program development, field involvement, employee support, regulatory compliance, and day-to-day operational assistance. The successful candidate must be comfortable working both independently and directly with employees, supervisors, clients, and company management.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program and COR Certification

- Review and update the company’s existing health and safety program to reflect current operations, expanded service lines, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Develop and manage a practical plan for transitioning the company from SECOR to COR certification.
- Prepare the company for its COR audit, coordinate required activities, address identified deficiencies, and support the organization throughout the audit process.
- Establish systems for maintaining COR certification and supporting future internal and external audits.
- Monitor changes to applicable occupational health and safety requirements, industry standards, and client expectations.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready safety documentation and records.

Hazard Assessment and Program Development

- Review and update the company’s formal hazard assessments.
- Develop new formal hazard assessments for added services, equipment, work environments, and operational activities.
- Ensure field-level hazard assessments and other job-specific safety documentation align with the company’s formal hazard assessments.
- Review and update safe work practices, safe job procedures, emergency-response requirements, inspection programs, and training requirements.
- Assist managers and employees in identifying hazards and implementing practical controls.
- Participate in incident investigations, corrective-action tracking, and follow-up.

Safety and Radiation Program Integration

- Review the company’s existing safety manual and radiation safety manual.
- Determine the most effective structure for coordinating the two programs while maintaining any information, controls, records, or standalone documentation required by applicable legislation, licences, or regulatory requirements.
- Incorporate relevant radiation-safety requirements into the broader health and safety management system where appropriate.




- Work with company management and designated radiation-safety personnel to ensure responsibilities and procedures are clearly defined.
- Help ensure radiation-safety documentation remains current and consistent with field operations.

Safety Management Software

- Lead the setup and implementation of the company’s new safety management software.
- Configure forms, workflows, employee records, training records, inspections, hazard assessments, corrective actions, and other required functions.
- Coordinate the transfer of existing safety information into the new system.
- Train employees and supervisors in the effective use of the software.
- Monitor participation, documentation quality, outstanding corrective actions, and system performance.
- Recommend improvements as the company and its operations expand.

Field and Site Support

- Conduct site visits, workplace inspections, observations, and employee consultations.
- Support supervisors and employees with site-specific safety requirements and client expectations.
- Participate in orientations, toolbox meetings, pre-job planning, and other field-safety activities.
- Assist with incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and return-to-work coordination.
- Work directly on project sites when required.
- Be available for potential full-time site assignments, including overtime.
- Travel primarily within the local area, with occasional out-of-town work as operational needs require.

HR and Operational Support

As part of a growing company, this position will also assist with responsibilities outside the traditional safety function, including:

- Employee onboarding and orientation.
- Training and competency record management.
- Development and maintenance of company policies.
- General HR administration and employee documentation.
- Client prequalification packages, contractor-management systems, and compliance submissions.
- Technical and operational reporting.
- Document control and preparation of internal and client-facing reports.
- Other administrative or operational duties reasonably related to the position and the company’s growth.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

- Previous experience developing, implementing, or managing a health and safety program in Alberta.
- Demonstrated experience with SECOR or COR certification and audit preparation.
- Solid knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety requirements.
- Experience developing formal hazard assessments, safe work practices, and safe job procedures.
- Experience in oil and gas, construction, industrial services, inspection, or a related field.
- Strong written communication and document-development skills.
- The ability to produce clear, professional policies, procedures, reports, and safety documentation.
- Strong organizational and record-management abilities.




- Confidence working directly with field employees, supervisors, clients, auditors, and management.
- The ability to work independently, identify deficiencies, and follow corrective actions through to completion.
- Proficiency with common business software and the ability to learn and administer safety management platforms.
- A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to project sites.

Experience with radiation-safety programs, industrial radiography, NDE operations, contractor-prequalification systems, or safety software implementation would be an asset.

Relevant safety designations or training—such as NCSO, CRSP, COR auditor training, occupational health and safety education, or equivalent industry experience—would also be considered assets.

Working Conditions

- Primarily local office and field work.
- Occasional out-of-town travel.
- Site work in active oil and gas, construction, and industrial environments.
- Potential for full-time project-site assignments.
- Overtime may be required during field assignments or periods of increased operational activity.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment and site-specific training will be required.
