Overview

The role of Athletic Therapist (Casual) provides support for University of Toronto Mississauga students through clinical and occasional field coverage responsibilities. Clinical responsibilities include providing Athletic Therapy assessments and treatments, administrative duties (record management, scheduling appointments), mentorship of Athletic Therapy placement students, and supporting student services programs, initiatives and events. Field coverage responsibilities include preventative taping and wrapping, on-field first aid and emergency care, and proper application of Concussion protocols.

Responsibilities & Duties

Provides support to students and designated Tri-Campus sport teams by:

- Conducting athletic therapy assessments and treatments in accordance with qualified standards
- Assessing and selecting appropriate therapeutic exercises and modalities
- Providing preventative taping and wrapping for practices and games
- Providing on-field first aid and emergency care along with support to medical professionals as required
- Ensuring proper application of Concussion protocol and direction through recovery and return to school and play processes
- Recommending preventative measures and evaluating risk factors to ensure safety
- Advising coaching staff if practice drills, techniques, or exercises are deemed to pose any risk of injury
- Familiarizing with venue’s facilities and mechanisms for emergency medical response




- Making referrals to other professionals or student supports

Provides program support by:

- Scheduling appointments
- Updating and managing patient records
- Promoting departmental events and programs to students
- Ensuring consistent administration procedures are followed
- Keeping well-informed on assessment and therapeutic advances
- Verifying all documents are aligned with college or association standards or operating procedures and in accordance with FIPPA & PHIPA regulations

Contributes to the execution of events by:

- · Ensuring proper tracking and management of supplies
- · Disseminating event-related information

Prevents injury and harm to others by:

- Acting as a first responder in the provision of advanced-level first aid
- Providing proactive care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harm

Provides guidance and/or direction by:

- Mentoring of Athletic Therapy Placement Students

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Certification:

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Kinesiology or related field & completion of Athletic Therapy program from a CATA accredited institution
- Certified Athletic Therapist, CAT(C).
- An active/ current member in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA)
- Hold a valid First Responder certificate and BLS certification

Work Details

- Regular evening work
- Occasional weekend work
- Occasional off-site work

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
