Position Summary

The Banquets Houseperson is responsible for setting up, maintaining, refreshing, and dismantling banquet and meeting spaces according to event requirements and hotel standards. This position supports the successful execution of meetings, conferences, weddings, and other special events by ensuring all function rooms, equipment, furnishings, and public areas are clean, organized, safe, and prepared on time.

The successful candidate must be physically capable of moving banquet furniture and equipment, able to work efficiently with minimal supervision, and committed to delivering professional and responsive service to guests and colleagues.

Responsibilities

- Review Banquet Event Orders and function schedules to understand room setup requirements, timing, attendance, and equipment needs.
- Set up banquet and meeting rooms according to approved floor plans and event specifications.
- Arrange tables, chairs, staging, dance floors, risers, podiums, linens, easels, coat racks, waste receptacles, and other banquet equipment.
- Ensure meeting rooms are properly supplied with water stations, notepads, pens, glassware, and other required materials.
- Assist with the setup and placement of basic audiovisual equipment, extension cords, power bars, screens, and signage, where required.
- Inspect function rooms before events to ensure they are clean, organized, safe, and ready for guest arrival.
- Refresh meeting rooms during scheduled breaks by removing waste, replacing supplies, straightening chairs, and cleaning tables and surrounding areas.
- Respond promptly and professionally to requests from banquet leaders, event organizers, guests, and other hotel departments.
- Dismantle function rooms after events and return furniture, equipment, and supplies to their designated storage areas.
- Maintain banquet storage rooms in a clean,



organized, and safe condition.
- Clean and maintain banquet furniture, equipment, service corridors, and event spaces.
- Identify and report damaged furniture, equipment, safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and missing supplies.
- Assist Banquet Servers and other Food and Beverage employees with operational duties when required.
- Coordinate with Banquets, Culinary, Stewarding, Housekeeping, Engineering, and other departments to support event requirements.
- Follow established procedures for handling, transporting, and storing banquet equipment.
- Follow all hotel policies, service standards, food-safety requirements, emergency procedures, and occupational health and safety practices.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safe lifting techniques.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, and hotel initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

- Previous banquet, hospitality, event setup, warehouse, or physically demanding work experience is an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand Banquet Event Orders, room diagrams, event schedules, and written instructions.
- Basic knowledge of banquet room configurations and event equipment is an asset.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments within established timelines.

- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- FoodSafe certification is an asset or may be required based on assigned duties.
- Serving It Right certification is an asset or may be required based on assigned duties.

Scheduling Requirements

- Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business and event requirements.
- Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Shift times and weekly hours may vary depending on hotel occupancy, event schedules, and operational requirements.
- Must be able to remain at work beyond the scheduled shift when required to complete an event setup or breakdown, subject to applicable policies and the collective agreement.
