We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Production Manager to lead our manufacturing shop team and strengthen the systems, processes, and operational discipline required to support our continued growth.

About the Opportunity

The Production Manager is responsible for leading and directing the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing facility.

This role oversees the shop team and is accountable for production scheduling, workflow, quality assurance, labour efficiency, project execution, safety, cost control, material coordination, performance management, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will bring strong experience in home building, modular or manufactured housing, construction manufacturing, or a similar production environment.

This is not strictly a desk-based management position. The Production Manager must be comfortable maintaining an active presence on the shop floor, providing clear direction, identifying production risks, coaching employees, resolving issues, and ensuring work is completed safely, correctly, on schedule, and within budget.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Leadership

- Lead, direct, and oversee the daily activities of the manufacturing shop team
- Establish clear daily, weekly, and project-based production priorities
- Assign work based on employee skills, production requirements, and project timelines
- Conduct daily production meetings and shop-floor check-ins
- Monitor workflow and adjust labour, resources, and priorities as required
- Maintain an active and visible presence within the manufacturing facility
- Set clear performance, quality, safety, and productivity expectations
- Coach employees and address performance, attendance, conduct, or accountability concerns
- Build a culture of ownership, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement

Production Planning and Project Management

- Develop and maintain production schedules for each home and active project
- Coordinate labour, materials, equipment, inspections, and subcontractor requirements
- Track project milestones, critical deadlines, and production dependencies
- Identify bottlenecks, delays, capacity concerns, and operational risks
- Adjust schedules when staffing, materials, drawings, or project requirements change
- Monitor projects against approved timelines, labour budgets, and material budgets
- Ensure project changes, decisions, and action items are documented and communicated
- Provide regular production updates to senior leadership and relevant departments

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

- Implement and maintain quality assurance and inspection processes
- Ensure homes are constructed according to approved drawings, specifications, building requirements, and company standards
- Conduct or coordinate quality inspections throughout each stage of production
- Develop and maintain inspection checklists, sign-offs, and deficiency reports
- Identify workmanship concerns, production errors, and recurring quality issues
- Ensure deficiencies are corrected and verified before work advances
- Track rework, defects, warranty concerns, and quality trends
- Complete root-cause analysis and implement corrective action plans
- Promote employee ownership for the quality and accuracy of completed work

Labour Efficiency and Workforce Planning

- Monitor labour hours by project, task, and production stage
- Compare actual labour hours against estimated and budgeted hours
- Identify downtime, duplication, inefficiencies, and productivity gaps
- Establish labour targets and performance expectations
- Review staffing levels, overtime requirements, and workforce capacity
- Support employee onboarding, training, coaching, and cross-training
- Identify skills gaps and recommend training or staffing solutions
- Ensure overtime is approved, justified, and monitored
- Improve team accountability for completing work correctly and on time

Cost Analysis and Operational Control

- Monitor production costs against approved project budgets
- Track labour, material usage, overtime, waste, rework, and subcontractor costs




- Analyze cost variances and identify contributing factors
- Prepare and present production cost reports to leadership
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising safety or quality
- Compare production estimates with actual results to improve future planning
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning
- Recommend operational investments based on measurable business value

Materials and Inventory Coordination

- Coordinate with purchasing and inventory personnel to ensure materials are available when required
- Review material requirements against production schedules
- Identify shortages, damaged materials, incorrect orders, or delivery concerns
- Ensure materials are properly received, staged, stored, and assigned to projects
- Reduce material waste, loss, damage, and unnecessary handling
- Track material-related delays and escalate risks before production is affected
- Provide feedback on supplier quality, reliability, and delivery performance

Safety and Compliance

- Lead production operations in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements
- Maintain a proactive and accountable safety culture
- Conduct regular shop inspections and safety observations
- Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment
- Participate in incident investigations, hazard assessments, and corrective actions
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are safe and properly maintained
- Confirm employees are trained and competent to complete assigned work
- Maintain strong housekeeping and shop organization standards

Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve production flow, quality, safety, cost, and efficiency
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, checklists, and work instructions
- Reduce delays, unnecessary movement, duplication, and production bottlenecks
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives with measurable results
- Encourage employees to contribute ideas and solutions
- Support improvements to facility layout, workstation design, equipment, and tooling
- Build scalable production systems that support company growth

Systems and Reporting

- Maintain accurate production data, schedules, reports, and dashboards
- Use Microsoft Excel to analyze production, labour, quality, and cost information
- Use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and related Microsoft applications
- Use project management platforms such as Monday.com or similar systems
- Use Employment Hero or other HRIS platforms for scheduling, timekeeping, training, and employee documentation
- Produce weekly production reports and monthly KPI scorecards
- Ensure production and employee records are current, accurate, and complete

Key Deliverables

The Production Manager will be expected to deliver:

Required Qualifications

- Five or more years of progressive experience in home building, construction manufacturing, modular construction, prefabrication, residential construction, or a related manufacturing workplace
- Previous experience leading tradespeople, production employees, construction crews, or shop teams
- Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing, materials, and workmanship standards
- Demonstrated experience in production planning, scheduling, and project management
- Experience managing labour costs, project budgets, production variances, and operational reports
- Experience with quality assurance, quality control, and deficiency management
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety responsibilities
- Advanced or highly proficient Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and other Microsoft applications
- Experience with project management software such as Monday.com, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Asana, or similar platforms
- Experience with Employment Hero or another HRIS is considered an asset
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and project documents
- Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in both a shop-floor and office environment

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in modular, manufactured, prefabricated, or off-site home construction
- Journeyperson certification or significant practical construction experience
- Education in construction management, operations management, engineering technology, manufacturing, business, or a related field
- Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, Six Sigma, or project management training
- Experience supporting production growth, scaling, or facility expansion
- Knowledge of Alberta residential construction practices and building requirements
