Overview
Eagle Towing Equipment is seeking an experienced, organized, and hands-on Controller to join our team. This is a key position within our company, responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the business and providing management with accurate, timely financial information to support day-to-day operations and long-term decision-making.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and understands the financial requirements of an equipment sales, service, parts, and manufacturing/fabrication business.
Key Responsibilities
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s accounting and financial functions, including:
- Manage the company’s day-to-day accounting operations
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Oversee customer invoicing, collections, and vendor payments
- Monitor cash flow and provide cash-flow forecasting
- Manage bank reconciliations and general ledger accounts
- Prepare and monitor annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Track actual results against budgets and identify significant variances
- Monitor inventory values, costing, and inventory reconciliation
- Track costs associated with chassis, towing equipment, parts, fabrication, installation, and completed units
- Assist management with job costing and gross-profit analysis
- Maintain accurate records for work in progress (WIP)
- Monitor margins by equipment sale, installation, service work, and parts operations
- Oversee payroll-related accounting and reporting
- Prepare HST and other required government remittances
- Coordinate year-end financial information with the company’s external accountant
- Maintain appropriate internal financial controls and accounting procedures
- Assist with banking, financing, floor-plan, and credit-line requirements
- Prepare management reports and financial analysis as required
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and profitability
Management & Operations Support
This position will work closely with ownership and management and will play an significant role in providing visibility into the financial performance of the company.
The Controller will help management understand:
- Profitability by department and individual job
- Equipment and chassis inventory
- Work-in-progress values
- Accounts receivable and outstanding collections
- Cash-flow requirements
- Departmental expenses
- Gross margins
- Budget versus actual performance
- Financial forecasting and upcoming obligations
The successful candidate should be able to turn financial information into clear, practical information that management can use to make business decisions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar financial leadership position
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, budgeting, and cash-flow management
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with accounting and ERP/CRM systems
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with management and other departments
Experience in automotive, heavy equipment,
truck equipment, manufacturing, fabrication, dealership, parts, or service operations would be considered a strong asset.
CPA designation or equivalent accounting education is an asset but may not be required for a candidate with strong relevant industry experience.
