Position Overview: The kitchen worker position will be assigned to perform multiple tasks in the kitchen area and can be moved around as needed in the kitchen/dining room area. The primary responsibility of a kitchen worker is to provide support and assistance wherever they are needed. This can include tasks such as standing in for absent employees, assisting with serving clients in the dining room, and providing support in different areas of the kitchen/dining room. The kitchen worker position requires a flexible and adaptable employee who has the qualifications and skills to perform a variety of different job duties including cleaning. Kitchen worker should be outgoing and possess strong communication and problem-solving skills. They must be able to quickly learn new processes and procedures, as well as work well in a team environment. Help during busy periods in the dining room by serving and assisting clients during meals. Provide flexibility for co-workers by covering for breaks.

Qualifications

The position of kitchen worker must possess: Commitment to consistent attendance and punctuality. Must be able to effectively communicate. Must be a flexible and adaptable employee who has the qualifications and skills to perform a variety of different job duties Experience in working in a kitchen and housekeeping role. Cleaning skills. Knowledge of use of cleaning solutions. Exhibit robust organizational skills. Must be able to quickly adjust to changing work environment, tasks,



and schedules. Should be comfortable working in different roles as needed. Position can be physically demanding, so a kitchen worker should be in good physical condition and able to handle the physical exertion of standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting for large portions of their day. Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting regarding organizing, sorting and stacking food orders on shelves. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, stand and walk for the duration of shift. Current Safe Food Handling, WHMIS and First Aid/ CPR Certificates. Must be able to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and maintain a high level of productivity and motivation. Ability to work as a team, clean and sanitize as you go attitude, as well as understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. Customer service experience. Fluency either in Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree would be an asset. An understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture. Completed Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Adhere to Safe Food Handling procedures and follow HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point)

2. Assist in maintaining kitchen inventory which includes food, cleaning and operating supplies, dishes, utensils etc.



and advise the Supervisor of items needed.

3. Maintain cleanliness and health and safety standards in kitchen/dining room/pantry/storage area.

4. Ensure daily, monthly and bi-annual cleaning schedules are thoroughly completed as directed by Supervisor.

5. Ensure all daily/weekly checklists are completed and documented.

6. Advise Supervisor of any maintenance and repair needs immediately.

7.Assist with receiving food order, ensure proper receiving practices, proper rotation of perishable and non-perishable inventory is completed. Ensure food safety guidelines are adhered to on a first in first out basis (FIFO).

8. Participate in monthly meetings as directed by Supervisor.

9. Wear a uniform including a hairnet, nonslip shoes and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times throughout your shift.

10. From time to time, you may be asked to work odd hours during special occasions as needed to service our clients.

11. Perform other job duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor.

12. Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is an enhanced criminal background check used in Canada to screen individuals applying for positions of trust or authority over vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The mandatory Police Vulnerable Sector Check must be completed on or before orientation date for a new hire.
