About The Connection

The Connection Intercultural Association of Medicine Hat is a community based organization with nearly 20 years of experience bringing people from different cultural backgrounds together through intercultural learning, community activities, volunteer engagement, and relationship building.

Our work helps newcomers and long term residents develop meaningful connections, learn from one another, and contribute to a stronger Medicine Hat.

About the Intercultural Ambassador Capacity Initiative

The Intercultural Ambassador Capacity Initiative is a two year community capacity building project designed to strengthen Medicine Hat's ability to welcome, integrate, and retain newcomers.

The initiative will train 160 community members as Intercultural Ambassadors through structured intercultural training, practical community resources, peer learning, and community engagement. The project will also engage local service providers, employers, community organizations, and other partners to help shape the training and strengthen connections across the community.

Intercultural Ambassadors will be equipped to build relationships, encourage intercultural learning, help newcomers connect with community life, and appropriately refer people to existing professional services when needed.

The Opportunity

The Connection is seeking an organized, relationship focused and dependable Project Coordinator to lead the day to day implementation of the Intercultural Ambassador Capacity Initiative.

This is a hands-on coordination role. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director service providers, employers, volunteers, and community partners.

The Coordinator will be responsible for keeping the project moving from planning through implementation while ensuring activities, participation, documentation, and deliverables remain on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Implementation

The Project Coordinator will manage the day to day implementation of the project and maintain the project work plan, schedules, timelines, activities and deliverables. The Coordinator will organize training cohorts, consultation sessions, learning activities, community networking sessions and Ambassador engagement opportunities while identifying operational issues early and working with the project team to address them.

Ambassador Recruitment and Participant Coordination

Working with the Community Engagement Assistant, the Coordinator will support the recruitment, intake and onboarding of participants. The Coordinator will help organize Ambassador cohorts, communicate program expectations, coordinate schedules and ensure participants have the information and support required to successfully complete the program.

Training and Curriculum Coordination

The Coordinator will work closely with the Curriculum Lead to support the development and implementation of the Intercultural Ambassador curriculum and Ambassador Toolkit. This includes coordinating consultations with service providers, employers and community stakeholders so their practical experience can inform the training.

The Coordinator will also organize training venues, participant communications, materials, guest contributors, accessibility requirements and other logistics required for effective delivery.

Community and Partner Engagement

The Coordinator will maintain working relationships with settlement organizations, community organizations, employers, faith communities, volunteer networks and other project partners.

The role will coordinate partner meetings and consultations and create opportunities for partners to contribute knowledge about newcomer experiences, community integration, referral pathways and local challenges.

Ambassador Engagement and Community Connections

Following training, the Coordinator will help maintain the Ambassador network through learning circles, networking sessions, recognition activities and other opportunities for continued learning.

The Coordinator will also oversee the project's community introduction process, ensuring Ambassadors understand their role as community connectors and maintain appropriate boundaries with formal settlement and professional services.

Monitoring, Documentation and Evaluation Support

The Coordinator will maintain accurate records of project activities, including participant registration, attendance, training completion, Ambassador engagement, partner participation and project outputs.

Working with evaluation and administrative support, the Coordinator will assist with surveys, feedback collection, introduction logs, participant stories and other information required to measure project outcomes.

The Coordinator will provide the Executive Director with accurate project information required for reporting to the funder.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate should have:

- Experience in project coordination, community development, volunteer coordination, nonprofit programming or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple activities, schedules and deadlines.
- Experience working with volunteers, community organizations or diverse groups of people.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.

What You Will Help Accomplish

During the project, the Project Coordinator will help The Connection deliver a structured Intercultural Ambassador program that trains 160 community members, develops a practical Ambassador curriculum and toolkit, strengthens relationships with community partners, and creates ongoing opportunities for intercultural learning and community participation.
