Job description

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Developmental Services Counsellor is assigned to replace employees on an as needed basis or to provide services during a short-term high intensity care period.

The Relief Developmental Services Counsellor provides support, structure and supervision in personal care routines, life skills and education to individuals with a developmental disability.

Through a team approach and the use of relevant community experiences and resources, the Relief Developmental Services Counsellor establishes and maintains an enriched and supportive environment for individuals in order to maximize their potential for development and improve their quality of life.

Establishes and maintains professional relationships with individuals, families, OCAPDD program staff, other agencies and the community in general.

· The Developmental Services Counsellor reports on the condition of building, property, furnishings, supplies and equipment.

· All employees are to adhere to OCAPDD policies and procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Developmental Services Counsellor reports to and is accountable to the Program Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum one year of Developmental Services Worker (DSW) diploma, Community College Diploma or University Degree in Human Services.

Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate and willingness to complete additional training courses offered by the agency.

COMPETENCIES:

· Effective oral, written and presentation skills.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment and of Microsoft Office Suite.





· Possess current certification in First Aid.

· Possess current certification or willingness to obtain certification in CPI.

· Ability to assist with lifts/transfers of wheelchair-dependent individuals.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs (18 kgs).

Salary: $26.49 - $29.16 per hour

Pay: $28.39-$31.25 per hour
