Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations (GNN) is seeking enthusiastic and community-minded individuals to join our Education Department in supporting First Nations students in local schools. We are currently recruiting for three contract positions that provide academic, cultural, and student support services.

Positions Available

First Nation Support Worker / Language & Cultural Worker

Location: Fort Rupert Elementary School

- 26 hours per week
- $35.84 per hour

Supports students while promoting Kwakwaka’wakw language, culture, traditions, and history through classroom support, cultural programming, and collaboration with teachers, Elders, and community members.

First Nation Connections Worker

Location: Port Hardy Secondary School

- 30 hours per week
- $35.61 per hour

Provides academic, social-emotional, and cultural support to First Nations students by working collaboratively with students, families, school staff, and community partners to promote student success, attendance, and positive transitions.

First Nation Support Worker

Location: Port Hardy Secondary School

- 30 hours per week
- $35.61 per hour

Provides classroom and academic support to students while assisting teachers, monitoring student progress, supporting student transitions, and contributing to First Nations education initiatives.

What You'll Do

Depending on the position, responsibilities may include:

- Supporting students individually and in small groups.
- Assisting students with academic achievement and classroom participation.
- Promoting Kwakwaka’wakw culture, language, and traditions.
- Building positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and community partners.
- Supporting student attendance, engagement,



and successful school transitions.
- Coordinating cultural learning opportunities and student activities.
- Maintaining accurate student records and documentation.
- Participating in Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement initiatives.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will typically possess:

- Secondary school graduation (Dogwood Certificate or equivalent).
- A minimum of one year of post-secondary education in a related field such as First Nations Studies, Anthropology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, English, or a related discipline.
- Extensive knowledge of Kwakwaka’wakw culture and traditions.
- Experience working with First Nations students (2–3 years preferred).
- Robust interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff.
- Computer skills for record keeping and documentation.
- Some positions require a valid BC Driver's Licence.

Additional Requirements

- Successful completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Successful completion of a three-month probationary period.
