Reporting to the Supervisor, Municipal Engineering Reviews, the Senior Municipal Engineering Technologist is an expert of the City’s technical standards, legislative requirements/compliance, engineering principles and municipal infrastructure design. The Senior Municipal Engineering Technologist liaise with various internal and external contacts to provide technical expertise and advice to determine the infrastructure solutions that best meet the community needs and organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

- Lead technical and regulatory review processes, including ensuring compliance with regulations, bylaws, and standards, ensuring engineering content is accurate, complete and suitable for the intended application, and reporting non-compliance issues
- Provide expert knowledge, supervision and oversight to staff and other teams
- Prioritize and execute growth and development processes, including legal agreements, financial controls, and processes related to expansion and change affecting transportation and stormwater services, acting as the official signatory of the City
- Serve as departmental resource for the development, review, and enforcement of the Development Charge By-law Study
- Lead renewal and replacement processes, including the review of proposals, tenders and purchase requisitions, as well as monitoring performance and assessing asset condition
- Participate in the development of performance standards and measures used to assess asset performance,



condition, and serviceability
- Facilitate the development and design of City engineering standards and technical solutions for municipal assets
- Support and demonstrate the City of Oshawa core values of Authenticity, Courage, and Trust
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

- Completion of a four (4) year degree in Civil Engineering or a related applied science or technology discipline along with OACETT accreditation/registration and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a municipal setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience in developing, planning, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
- Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, standards, and emerging industry trends
- Broad knowledge and experience in municipal design, including storm sewer design, transportation design requirements, municipal standards, the City's Official Plan, development servicing and subdivision agreements, the Development Charges By-law, and the Ontario Planning Act
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective customer service skills, problem solving, analytical, project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment
- Effective leadership and coaching skills, with sound judgement, tact and discretion
- Strong reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical skills
- Advanced skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications and related engineering software applications
- Able to provide own transportation for travel between work locations as required.

This position is eligible for hybrid work.
