Overview
Howlers Cafe and Lounge, operated by the Northwestern Polytechnic Students’ Association, is seeking reliable and hardworking individuals to join our team in a dynamic role that combines barista, bartending, cooking, cleaning, and customer service. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can switch quickly between multiple roles, and enjoys creating a welcoming space for students and guests.
Duties
- Prepare and serve beverages in accordance with established recipes and standards.
- Operate the POS system efficiently and accurately to process orders and handle cash transactions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area, adhering to food safety and handling regulations.
- Engage with customers, providing excellent service and addressing any inquiries or concerns promptly.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely delivery of food orders to guests at the bar.
- Prepare, cook, and plate menu items while adhering to food safety and quality standards.
- Monitor inventory levels of bar and kitchen supplies and report any shortages to management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in the bar, kitchen, and dining area.
- Complete regular and deep cleaning tasks including wiping down tables, sweeping and mopping floors, washing dishes, cleaning kitchen equipment, and sanitizing high-touch areas.
- Stay busy and productive during down times with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the lounge atmosphere.
- Restock supplies, rotate inventory, and ensure all workstations are fully equipped during shifts.
- Work efficiently under pressure, adapting quickly between bartending, cooking,
and customer service as needed.
- Provide friendly, professional, and productive service, ensuring a positive experience for all guests.
Ideal Qualifications
- Previous restaurant or food industry experience is preferred, with a strong emphasis on customer service skills.
- Strong multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to switch smoothly between multiple roles.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working under pressure in a busy environment.
- ProServe is a benefit, but will be provided if not already obtained.
- Familiarity with POS systems, particularly Micros POS, is a plus.
- Basic math skills for cash handling and order processing are essential.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and food handling regulations is required.
- Strong time management abilities to handle busy periods effectively while maintaining quality service.
