JOB DESCRIPTION

Who we are

The Aphasia Centre of Ottawa (ACO)is a not-for-profit community organization providing on-going support to adult individuals and families living with aphasia. ACO is dedicated to facilitating the inclusion of people with aphasia in family and community life by bridging the communication gap. ACO’s clinical environment is highly experienced and inter-disciplinary; a group of Speech Language Pathologists, Social Workers, and Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs), working together to deliver services to the aphasia community in Eastern Ontario.

Job Type: Part time, contract (0.6 FTE)

Hours per week: 21 hours per week

Location: Hybrid (in office and online)

Years of experience: 3+ years

Salary & Compensation: $38.76 - $41.13 hourly, percentage in lieu, opportunities for professional development, flexible work schedule

Primary Responsibilities

· Co-facilitate intake meetings with PPA program social worker

· Facilitate family education and communication partner training

· Supervise virtual PPA groups (includes direct and indirect supervision of CDAs)

· Recommend appropriate services/interventions (ACO services and/or other services)

Essential Qualifications

· Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and CASLPO registration

· Ability to work in Ottawa at ACO and work remotely from home (private work environment and reliable internet required)

· Vaccination (COVID-19 and annual Flu shot) is a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code

Essential Skills and Experience





· Experience with adults with aphasia and the ability to provide communication support to people with aphasia

· Ability to work with clients and families

· Ability to work with small groups of people with PPA

· Ability to contribute effectively and positively as part of an interdisciplinary team

Assets

· Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred

· Experience with people with Primary Progressive Aphasia

· Experience working with persons living with cognitive communication challenges

· Experience delivering in-person and virtual therapy

· Experience facilitating communication groups and effectively managing group dynamics

· Knowledge and experience working with persons living with aphasia and their families, using the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA)

· Experience in training communication partners

· Comfort with public speaking (in-person presentations and webinars)
