We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Rehabilitation Assistant to join our interdisciplinary care team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping seniors maintain their independence, mobility, and quality of life through therapeutic programs and rehabilitation services.

Position Summary

The Rehabilitation Assistant works under the direction of the Occupational Therapist and/or Physical Therapist to implement individualized therapy programs that support residents' mobility, function, independence, and overall well-being. The Rehabilitation Assistant assists with therapeutic treatments, mobility training, group programs, equipment management, and resident education while promoting a safe, respectful, and resident-centered environment.

The position is a Permanent 0.8 FTE Day.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist the Occupational Therapist and/or Physical Therapist in implementing individualized therapy and rehabilitation programs.
- Prepare residents, equipment, and treatment areas for individual and group therapy sessions.
- Assist residents with therapeutic exercises, stretching, range of motion, gait training, balance training, transfers, ambulation, and functional mobility activities.
- Support residents with therapeutic activities that promote independence in activities of daily living, including dressing, mobility, transfers, and self-care.
- Monitor resident progress and report changes, concerns, or significant observations to the therapist.
- Assist with the selection, fitting, adjustment, cleaning, labeling, maintenance, and minor repair of mobility equipment, wheelchairs, walkers, cushions, and assistive devices.
- Fabricate and modify simple adaptive equipment and seating solutions as directed,



including sewing and equipment adjustments when required.
- Participate in therapeutic group programs and resident education under the direction of the therapist.
- Educate residents, families, and staff on therapy goals, exercises, and the safe use of mobility equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation, workload statistics, inventory records, and departmental files.
- Assist with ordering supplies, equipment maintenance, and administrative tasks to support rehabilitation services.
- Collaborate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team to support resident-centered care.
- Promote resident dignity, independence, safety, choice, and quality of life in all interactions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, orientation, mandatory education, and ongoing professional development.
- Follow Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), Occupational Health and Safety legislation, safe work practices, and Salem Manor policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in long-term care, continuing care, rehabilitation, or a geriatric setting is considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of body mechanics, safe lifting and transfer techniques, mobility equipment, and rehabilitation principles.
- Experience assisting with therapeutic exercise, mobility training, gait training, balance training, and activities of daily living is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.




- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong observation, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Sewing skills are considered an asset for fabrication and modification of adaptive equipment.
- Professional, compassionate, dependable, and committed to resident-centered care.

Schedule

- 0.8 FTE (31 hours per week)
- 8:00 am to 4:15pm

Pay: $21.98-$25.14 per hour
