Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state Carpenters or Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers and painters! If you’re passionate about helping people and skilled at making things right, this is your chance to make a real difference.

Compensation

- Salary Range: $28-$30/hour
- Overtime opportunities (where applicable)

What You’ll Do

- Finishing work and fine details, rough and trim
- Installation, doors, trim, moldings, baseboards and hardware
- Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts
- Drywall repairs, mudding, sanding, taping and finishing
- Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim)
- Insulation and vapour barrier installation
- Cabinetry (removal, repair, reinstallation)
- Framing

What You Bring

- 10+ years doing interior carpentry repairs/restoration
- Leadership to guide helpers and train less experienced workers
- Restoration/rebuild focus (flood/fire damage)
- Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do
- Tools and the skills to use them
- Strong people and communication skills
- A safety mindset
- Willingness to cross train into other departments
- Tech-savvy (comfortable using apps and software)
- Valid drivers license
- Ability to pass a criminal record check
- Ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

- Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime is paid.
- This position requires frequent heavy lifting, as well as continuous physical activity such as standing, crouching, bending, reaching, and kneeling. Are you able to perform this level of physical work on a consistent basis?
- Do you have your own hand and power tools for the job?
- Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Do you have basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience? Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as instructed?
- Do you have previous experience dealing with insurance, flood or fire damage? If yes, please describe.
- Are you able to work a rotating on call schedule, responding to emergency calls after regular hours? This on call work is in addition to your scheduled daytime hours, and premium pay as well as overtime will be provided.
- Regularly driving company vehicles is a key part of this role. How would you describe your current driving record and overall comfort behind the wheel?

- This position involves entering homes/businesses that have experienced flood or fire damage and completing all necessary repairs — including drywall repair, painting, rough/trim/finish carpentry, and more. Essentially, the role requires someone who can restore a home from start to finish. Please describe why you believe you would be the best fit for this job:

Experience:

- finishing carpentry: 5 years (preferred)
- interior repairs vs recent build: 5 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Canadian Driver's License (required)
