Painter – Engineering Department

Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Painter is responsible for maintaining the exceptional appearance and presentation of the resort through the preparation, painting, staining, and finishing of walls, ceilings, millwork, furniture, and other interior and exterior surfaces. This role plays a key part in preserving the luxury guest experience by ensuring all areas of the property reflect JW Marriott's commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, furniture, fixtures, and building surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Inspect guest rooms, meeting spaces, public areas, and back-of-house facilities to identify and address cosmetic maintenance requirements.
- Remove old finishes through sanding, scraping, stripping, or other appropriate preparation methods to ensure high-quality results.
- Protect surrounding surfaces and furnishings during painting projects, maintaining a clean, organized, and professional work environment at all times.
- Ensure all painting tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained, cleaned, and stored following departmental procedures.
- Complete assigned work efficiently while minimizing disruption to guests, associates, and resort operations.
- Maintain consistently high standards of workmanship, ensuring all finishes align with brand expectations and resort quality standards.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance practices.




- Demonstrate a guest-first approach by welcoming and acknowledging guests, responding to requests professionally, and creating positive interactions whenever opportunities arise.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with guests, colleagues, and leaders to support a collaborative work environment.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations, safe work practices, and emergency procedures.
- Support sustainability initiatives and environmental programs in accordance with company and property standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in commercial, residential, or hospitality painting and finishing required.
- Experience within a hotel, resort, or large-scale facility environment is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation, paint application techniques, and finishing products.
- Familiarity with WHMIS regulations, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and safe handling of paints, solvents, and related materials is an asset.
- Health and Safety certification or related training is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.




- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.

Working Conditions

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Must be able to move safely across uneven, sloped, or slippery surfaces.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) without assistance.
- Work may involve exposure to paint products, cleaning agents, dust, and varying environmental conditions while adhering to all safety protocols.
