Position Overview:
The Quality Assurance & Project Closeout Specialist maintains and recommends improvements to Scuka's quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards — which are owned by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) — and supports the project closeout process across all projects. This role helps ensure work is completed to Scuka's standards and contributes to turning over every project on time and with zero deficiencies. (Verifying work against project specifications remains the responsibility of the Project Manager and Site Superintendent.)
Working closely with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, and clients, this role reinforces consistent quality practices across the full project lifecycle and supports the finishing and closeout work that gives clients a fully finished project. This is a client-facing role, and clear, skilled communication with clients, consultants, and project teams is imperative.
The primary focus of this role is quality assurance and quality control throughout the project lifecycle — keeping Site Superintendents and projects consistent and aligned to Scuka's standards — with project closeout support forming a smaller part of the role. Hands-on completion of corrective or finishing work is performed when needed to support turnover. For clarity, “zero deficiencies” means no known, unresolved deficiencies within Scuka's control at the time of client turnover.
Core Accountabilities:
· Maintain and recommend improvements to QA/QC standards.
· Drive continuous quality improvement across projects.
· Support deficiency-free project turnover.
· Train, support, and communicate quality expectations with project teams and clients.
· Track and report quality performance metrics.
Primary Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
· Maintain and recommend improvements to QA/QC standards, checklists, and inspection procedures (standards owned by the COO).
· Monitor project compliance with company QA/QC procedures and escalate recurring non-compliance.
· Conduct quality inspections to confirm work meets Scuka's standards and workmanship expectations.
· Identify and classify deficiencies, require corrective action, and escalate unresolved quality concerns to the COO (final responsibility for execution remains with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent).
· Investigate recurring quality issues, identify root causes, and drive preventive improvements.
· Track deficiencies to closure and verify corrective work is completed to standard.
Project Closeout Support
· Support the project closeout process, which is led by the Site Superintendent.
· Identify and help resolve scope gaps and finishing touches needed to reach zero deficiencies.
· Support deficiency walkthroughs and final inspections, and complete corrective work as needed.
· Participate in warranty work and review that warranty items are being addressed.
· Note: turnover packages, O&M; manuals, as-built documents, and warranties are prepared by the Project Manager, Project Coordinator, or Associate Project Manager.
Documentation, Systems & Reporting
· Maintain QA/QC records and inspection documentation in Procore and related systems.
· Standardize templates and reporting for consistent QA/QC across projects.
· Track and report recurring quality trends and recommendations to the COO and operations leadership.
· Support lessons-learned sessions and continuous improvement.
Communication & Collaboration
· Communicate quality status, expectations, and closeout progress clearly and professionally with clients, consultants, and project teams.
· Partner with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, and trades to embed quality expectations early.
· Coach and train site teams on QA/QC standards and inspection expectations.
· Advise field teams on deficiency prevention and corrective direction.
· Other duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years of experience in construction quality assurance/quality control and project-closeout support.
· Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and building codes.
· Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and MS Office.
· Strong understanding of construction methods and deficiency management.
· Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence.
Preferred Qualifications
· Gold Seal Certification, Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or a quality-management certification.
· Experience in commercial and multi-family construction.
· Trade background (e.g., carpentry) with hands-on finishing experience.
Soft Skills & Attributes
· Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to zero deficiencies.
· Strong organization and follow-through.
· Clear, professional written and verbal communication, including client-facing situations.
· Ability to work independently across multiple projects.
· Collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
