Automation Specialist

Location: Scarborough, ON M1V 4B4

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Salary: Open to discuss

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Automation Specialist to design, install, program, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automated equipment throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will have strong electro-mechanical, electrical, and automation experience with a focus on equipment reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

● Set up, maintain, program, troubleshoot, and repair automated equipment and systems.

● Configure and program automation software as required.

● Troubleshoot electrical and electronic circuits across various equipment.

● Design and build automated fixtures.

● Coordinate automation projects with Technical Supervisors, Maintenance/Engineering, and Project Management teams.

● Prepare programming, wiring, work instruction, and maintenance documentation.

● Train employees on recent automation systems.

● Ensure automated equipment is safe, reliable, effective, and operating efficiently.

● Identify and immediately report or correct safety concerns.

● Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing cycle time and downtime.

● Complete automation projects within required deadlines, including overtime or weekend work when necessary.

● Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures and follow all applicable safety requirements.





● Complete routine paperwork and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

● 3-year diploma in Electro-Mechanical Technology or equivalent.

● Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience or equivalent.

● Proficiency in PLC programming, pneumatics, hydraulics, low-voltage electrical systems, and electronics.

● Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

● Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures.

● Ability to operate a forklift.

● Strong English communication and organizational skills.

● Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.

● Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

● Strong understanding of workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

Safety & Compliance

● Comply with OHSA, WSIB, WHMIS, and company health and safety policies.

● Use required PPE and maintain good housekeeping practices.

● Promptly report incidents, hazards, equipment issues, and product or system deficiencies.

● Participate in safety, quality, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

● Maintain confidentiality of company and proprietary information.

Training & Development

Training opportunities may include OHSA, WHMIS, robotics, automation software, and other technical systems.
