Komoka Kilworth Home Hardware Building Centre (‘KKHHBC’) is currently seeking an experienced and skilled Forklift Operator. The primary function of this role is to be supporting the Lumber Yard with the collection and building of material loads, loading delivery trucks, loading and off-loading products for shipping and receiving as well as picking up and delivering products to and from the retail store, among additional tasks & duties as assigned by Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating technical equipment, optimizing loading for efficient logistics and supporting other Warehouse and Lumber Yard functions to ensure optimal operation of the business. Flexibility with scheduled workdays and shift preference is required.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate Forklift safely and efficiently
- Support the Lumber Yard in moving product, building material loads, loading and off-loading delivery trucks and shipping/receiving product
- Pick, wrap, and stage orders to be shipped
- Consolidate partial pallets for incoming goods
- Perform cycle counts as required
- Maintain good communications with Yard Management
- Maintain safety training certifications annually or as advised
- Treat all employees with respect.
- Be accessible to colleagues for questions and guidance where necessary
- Support and contribute to an environment that encourages high employee productivity and morale
- Set a good example by always following company policies and procedures.
- Maintain good customer relations through your presence in the Lumber Yard, knowledge of products and services, and ability to assist customers.
- Adhere to quality and customer service standards set forth by GHHBC
- Inspect and perform maintenance of Forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Participate and represent store in local community events.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of valuable common sense.
- Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by Yard Management and GM
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED
- High School Diploma / GED required
- 2+ years’ experience operating powered Forklifts
- 1 – 2 years retail experience
- Knowledge of various material-handling equipment an asset
- Possess a high regard for safety in the workplace
- Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient in mathematics
- Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base
- Strong understanding of Ontario Health & Safety Act (OSHA) regulations
