Perimeter Institute's Black Hole Bistro is seeking a talented, reliable, and hospitality-focused individual to join our Front of House team in a part time serving position.

Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, and evenings, Monday through Friday, as well as occasional weekends.

About Black Hole Bistro

Located within the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Black Hole Bistro serves resident scientists, visiting researchers, conference delegates, and workshop guests from around the world. The Bistro has become the social hub of the Institute, providing a welcoming space where groundbreaking ideas and collaborations often continue over exceptional food and hospitality.

Named after one of the most fascinating areas of modern physics research, Black Hole Bistro opened in 2005 and has grown into an integral part of the Perimeter community. Our cuisine is built around fresh, locally sourced ingredients and thoughtfully prepared dishes that appeal to an international clientele. We combine classic culinary techniques with contemporary inspiration to create a dining experience that is both approachable and memorable.

Position Summary

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent customer service skills, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and grow within a professional hospitality environment.

Responsibilities

- Providing table service during lunch and dinner service
- Preparing and serving specialty coffee beverages
- Assisting with formal dinners, receptions, and special events
- Maintaining employee self-serve coffee stations throughout the Institute




- Supporting the cleanliness and organization of the Bistro and other food service areas
- Working collaboratively with front and back of house team members to deliver an exceptional guest experience

Qualifications

- Previous hospitality, café, restaurant, or customer service experience is considered an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable, punctual, and qualified
- Smart Serve certification is an asset
