*This position is funded through a federal youth-hiring grant. Applicants must be 30 years or younger, graduates of a post-secondary institution, not currently in receipt of Employment Insurance benefits and Canadian citizens, refugees or permanent residents.*

The technician will assist in the planning, implementation and development of regenerative composting processes and procedures for expanding the production of Jocelyn's Soil Booster soil amendments.

This position will be on-farm labour supporting compost operations and manufacturing production. You'll be involved in all aspects of the composting process, from collecting food waste on farm, feeding inputs and monitoring the composting process using commercial equipment, logging input and output data, moving material through the production supply chain, and preparing product for sale through harvesting, drying, refining, bagging and labeling. You will further your knowledge around composting and worm farming techniques including the importance of soil microbiology.

This position is also suitable for high-school or post-secondary co-op position.

About Wastenot:

Wastenot Farms is a small regenerative farm that uses worm composting to produce Jocelyn’s Soil Booster Worm Manure. We collect food waste, process it through our worms and harvest, refine and bag our premium plant food products.

Location details:

The farm is near Airport Road & Highway 9.

Work hours:

Full-time: 20 - 35 hours per week

Duties & Responsibilities:

- On-farm labour including worm husbandry, harvesting worm castings, drying/ bagging product
- Research and develop production protocols that are replicable, scalable and regenerative
- Aid in the development and trial of new soil amendment products including trial setup, data collection, analysis and report writing
- Manage & oversee inventory and fulfillment

- Possess an innate curiosity to learn
- Previous experience in a technical or trade working environment
- Possess and demonstrate a health and safety mindset
- Passionate and knowledgable about soil, sustainability, or local food & farm systems

Physical Requirements:

- Able to withstand periods of standing, shovelling & repetitive physical labour
- Ability to work with food waste & soil
- Ability to lift and move 25 kg boxes
- Ability to shovel 20kg pound repeatedly outdoors in all weather

Summary

As a Soil Technician, you will be integral to our operations, focusing on quality control and manufacturing processes within the organization. Reporting to the CEO, your role will involve utilizing core skills in lean manufacturing while applying skills such as SAP and process improvement to enhance efficiency. You will also leverage your mechanical knowledge and understanding of supply chain dynamics to support continuous improvement initiatives. Your expertise in assembly and quality control will ensure that our products meet the highest standards, contributing to our commitment to excellence in soil management.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Contract length: 4 months

Pay: $22.00 per hour
