The Iitaisttsinao’p Program Coordinator (program for prevention of food insecurity) has a unique opportunity to assist the Piikani community with the opening of the Piikani program for prevention of food insecurity. The Iitaisttsinao’p Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that the food distribution process runs smoothly and efficiently in a kind, compassionate and unbiased manner. This position involves a variety of tasks to support the food bank operations and assist clients in need. A passion for food and understanding of the importance of food security including growing, cooking and sharing food is an asset in this role. The Coordinator will collaborate with the management team in the planning, execution, evaluation, and continual improvement of overall food operations, consistent with their assigned duties and responsibilities. In addition, the Coordinator will maintain a high-level awareness of relevant food safety hazards and actively implement appropriate control measures to prevent or mitigate risks at any phase of Iitaisttsinao’p operations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Client Interaction: Greet clients warmly, assist them in the registration process, and ensure they understand how to access resources.
- Food Distribution: Help prepare and pack food items for distribution to clients, ensuring that all items meet safety and quality standards.
- Inventory Management: Assist with the organization and inventory of food supplies, including receiving donations, sorting items, and maintaining accurate records of stock levels.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure that the Iitaisttsinao'p program mission area is clean, organized,
and complies with health and safety regulations.
- Volunteer Support: Work collaboratively with volunteers, providing training and support where necessary to facilitate a welcoming and effective environment.
- Community Outreach: Participate in outreach efforts to promote the Iitaisttsinao'p program mission’s services within the community, including attending community events and engaging with local organizations.
- Data entry and reporting: Maintain accurate records of clients served and food distributed, inputting data into relevant systems as required and reporting as needed.
- Special Events: Assist in planning and organizing special events, food drives, and fundraising initiatives to support the Iitaisttsinao'p program mission.
- Quality Management System (QMS) Contribution: Carry out responsibilities in alignment with the operations ISO 9001-based QMS by following established policies, procedures, and approved forms/templates, maintaining required records, identifying process risks or nonconformities, and supporting continual improvement activities as defined within QMS documentation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a full-time, 1 year contract position, with prospect for extensions. Hours of work are 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday. After-hours, evenings, and weekend work may be required from time to time.
The position is based in the Piikani Nation Reserve in Brocket. This job will work mainly at the Iitaisttsinao’p (food resource area).
Compensation: Range of $24 to $29 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
A benefits package including health and dental will be provided after a successful 90-day probation period. This position also offers opportunities to participate in Blackfoot cultural programs and social events in the community.

- Familiarity with food safety standards is a plus
- Confidentiality with regards to sensitive information
- Knowledge of community and culture on reserve is an asset
- Ability to coordinate programs such as cooking classes, meal planning, recipe planning, etc.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in food service, customer service, or nonprofit work is an advantage
- Ability to safely lift and transport boxes up to 50lb, as required
- Clean Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
- Ability to obtain a class 4 driving license would be an asset
- Technical skills/Computer literacy: Excel, Database, Google Forms, Microsoft Suite, etc.
- Ability to speak/understand Blackfoot is an advantage
