SUMMARY The Analytics Engineer (New Grad) supports Metro Supply Chain's next phase of analytics modernization by combining data engineering, BI delivery, and software-development fundamentals. The role is designed for a recent Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or Analytics graduate with strong coding skills and the ability to help build governed Fabric AI applications. Working with Analytics, BI, Data Engineering, and business stakeholders, this role helps create reusable data products, semantic models, automation assets, and early Fabric AI / Copilot-enabled experiences that improve self-service, delivery productivity, and customer-facing analytics.
RESPONSIBILITIES Data Preparation &
- Analytics Engineering Extract, clean, transform, and validate datasets across operational, financial, and customer systems
Build reusable ELT/ETL pipelines and analytics-ready datasets using SQL, Python, and modern cloud data tools
Support cloud data infrastructure and governed data products across Azure, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and related platforms
Document data lineage, transformation logic, and data-quality controls to support transparent, reliable analytics Semantic Models, BI &
- Reporting Build and maintain scalable semantic models, reusable measures, dimensions, and standardized business logic
Develop, maintain, and optimize Power BI dashboards, reports, and app-ready analytics experiences
Translate complex data into clear visuals, narratives, and business-ready insights for technical and non-technical audiences Fabric AI Applications &
- NLP Analytics Support the design and build of Fabric AI application prototypes, including governed natural-language experiences over approved semantic models and data products
Help develop Fabric Data Agent / Copilot-enabled proof-of-concepts such as order lookup, inventory insight,
KPI explanation, and SLA exception narration
Create reusable components, sample prompts, validation checks, and source-path documentation for AI-assisted analytics experiences Software Engineering &
- Automation Use Python, SQL, notebooks, APIs, Git/source control, and scripting practices to automate repetitive analytics and engineering tasks
Assist with testing, release notes, quality gates, and deployment readiness for BI, Fabric, and AI-enabled solutions
Apply secure-by-design practices, including approved workspaces, access controls, RLS/CLS validation, and human review before production release Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with Data Engineers to ensure reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of data assets
Work with BI Analysts and business teams to clarify requirements, prototype solutions, and close knowledge gaps
Participate in agile ceremonies, sprint reviews, documentation, and data-governance activities EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Recent graduate or 1-2 years of related experience through internship, co-op, academic, project, or early-career work
University/College degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, Math, Engineering, or a related field
Strong coding foundation in Python and SQL;
experience with notebooks, APIs, Git/source control, or application development is an asset
Familiarity with Power BI, semantic models, DAX, Azure, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or cloud data platforms is an asset
Understanding of ETL/ELT, data modelling, data quality, testing, and documentation practices
Curiosity about AI-assisted analytics, Copilot/Fabric capabilities, and governed self-service analytics experiences
Robust communication skills, analytical mindset, attention to detail, and willingness to learn Metro's business processes and data landscape
