Giant Containers, a subsidiary of Olenox Industries Inc., specializes in the design, engineering, and construction of creative steel-framed modular buildings and shipping container-based structures. Our projects span commercial, industrial, residential, institutional, and custom applications throughout International markets, focusing on Canada and the United States.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Architectural Technologist to join our Calgary office.

Position Overview The Architectural Technologist will be responsible for the design, drafting, and technical coordination of modular construction projects from initial concept through fabrication and construction & as-builts. Working closely with project managers and external engineering consultants, this role will transform client requirements into practical, buildable designs while ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and project specifications.

Experience with shipping container-based or modular construction is considered a strong asset but is not required.

Key Responsibilities

- Design creative modular buildings and shipping container-based structures to meet client requirements.
- Prepare architectural drawings, permit packages, fabrication drawings, and construction documentation using AutoCAD (Revit experience is an asset).
- Develop conceptual layouts and preliminary design drawings to support the sales team during the proposal and business development process.
- Coordinate designs with project managers and third-party engineering consultants, including structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable national, provincial, and state building codes and regulations for projects throughout International markets, focusing on Canada and the United States.
- Revise drawings based on client feedback, engineering requirements, and project changes.




- Assist with permit applications and respond to plan review comments from regulatory authorities.
- Work closely with fabrication and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, accurate, and efficient to manufacture.
- Maintain project documentation, drawing standards, and revision control throughout each project.
- Contribute ideas that improve constructability, efficiency, and overall project execution.

Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in architectural design, drafting, or construction documentation.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of building systems, construction methods, and construction detailing.
- Knowledge of Canadian building codes; familiarity with U.S. building codes is considered an asset.
- Solid problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with clients, consultants, and internal teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with modular, prefabricated, or off-site construction.
- Experience designing shipping container-based structures.
- Experience producing fabrication or shop drawings.
- Familiarity with steel construction and structural detailing.
- Experience with Revit is considered an asset.
